NAMPA, Idaho – Mario Lopez hasn't even run 10 individual races yet as a Seattle Pacific freshman.
 
But two of them have been of the record-setting variety.
 
The latest of those was Saturday. Lopez (Chino, Calif.) took fifth place in the 400 meters in 49.27 seconds. That broke his mark of 49.91, set in the season-opening UW Indoor Preview on Jan. 17.
 
That previous PR broke a 10-year-old school record of 49.99, set by Chris Randolph in 2005. Lopez came into Saturday's final as the No. 7 seed, going 50.26 on Friday. He thus shaved nearly a full second off of that.
 
Another freshman, Clifford Paulk, was the only other Falcon to score individual points. Paulk (Marysville, Wash. / Marysville-Pilchuck HS) placed seventh in the triple jump at 42-0 ¾. That was six inches farther than the 41-6 he went at the UW Indoor Open last Sunday.
 
SPU finished ninth with 12 points. Alaska Anchorage won with 142, dethroning two-time defending champion Western Washington. The Vikings were second with 136.
