SAN JOSE, Calif. – Freshman Ariana Harger won the floor exercise and junior Maria Hundley claimed third-place honors on the vault Sunday, leading Seattle Pacific to the fifth-highest score in school history in a women's gymnastics quad meet at San Jose State's Event Center.

Harger (Castro Valley, Calif.) finished in a four-way tie among an elite field of NCAA Division I competitors. Her mark of 9.875 was the highest by a Falcon on the floor this year and the 11th-best all-time.

"It was a great routine," said SPU coach Laurel Tindall. "Ariana's been hovering right there at the 9.8, 9.85 level. So it was great for her to get to 9.875."

Hundley (Littleton, Colo.) earned a season-high 9.85 on the vault. She was outscored only by the host Spartans' Cami Guyer (9.90) and Sarah Landess of Utah State (9.875). Hundley is the defending USAG collegiate champion on the vault.

Guyer also won the all-around with an impressive four-event total of 39.350. SPU senior Sydney Clark (Eugene, Ore.) registered a seventh-place score of 38.800 to eclipse her career high.

The Division II Falcons surpassed their previous season-best team score by nearly a full point. They compiled a fourth-place total of 194.025. Utah State won the team title with 195.750 points followed by San Jose State (195.675) and Sacramento State (195.050).

SPU entered the meet with a high mark of 193.050 from last week's home dual meet versus Air Force.

"We really needed to get a great team score and it was nice to do it here," Tindall said. "Hopefully we're starting to peak at the right time. By this point last year we were really pretty solid. We haven't been consistently solid and we're hoping that this gives them a little confidence to do that."

Utah State's JoAnna Cuba was the uneven bars event (9.85) and San Jose's Maddie Herr topped the balance beam field (9.85).

Fueled by Harger's win, the Falcons shattered their team floor high by a half point. Their score of 48.800 included career-bests by Harger, Sydney Clark (9.850) and Brittany Atchison (9.725) along with a season-high from Shannon Escarra (9.725). Clark tied for fifth overall on floor.

"We had a much better meet," said Tindall. "Floor was definitely much improved. That's the first time we've hit floor all year."

Harger has been SPU's top floor scorer six times this season and she was the meet medalist in three of those. She also posted a career-best performance on the beam Sunday with a sixth-place score of 9.80.

Sophomore Tracie Villanueva was the Falcons top scorer on the bars with a seventh-place mark of 9.775.

Maria Hundley
Hundley's third-place performance, along with a career-high vault by Paige Blaney (9.80), powered SPU to its season-best of 48.675 on that apparatus. Hundley and Cara Lord (9.60) chipped in season highs.

Sunday was the fourth meet back for Hundley, who missed the season's first five competitions due to an injury. She is returning to the form that helped her capture three national championships in 2014.

Hundley won the vault, bars and beam event titles at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships last April.

The Falcons finish their 2015 regular-season schedule on Saturday in Corvallis, Ore. They compete in a quad meet with host Oregon State, San Jose State and Lindenwood.

Postseason competition begins on March 21 in Anchorage, Alaska with the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships. The USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships are slated for April 10-12 in Philadelphia, Pa.
