Five Falcons sports post top team grade point averages

PORTLAND, Ore. – Five teams registered the league's highest grade point averages in their respective sports for Seattle Pacific, which placed second in the overall standings for the 2015 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Academic All-Sports championship.
 
The defending champion Falcons compiled 152 points to place second behind Northwest Nazarene's total of 164. Saint Martin's placed third (139) followed by Central Washington (111) and Western Washington (110).
 
NNU won both the men's and women's all-sports titles. The Crusaders edged Saint Martin's 76-72 for their fifth men's title, including the last three in a row. Northwest Nazarene scored 88 points to finish six points ahead of Seattle Pacific in winning their eighth women's title.
 
The Crusaders won the academic all-sport titles despite posting the best team GPA in only two of the GNAC's sports – men's cross country (3.37) and women's track and field (3.48). NNU had solid performances across the board, finishing in the top 3 in nine of 13 sports.
 
Seattle Pacific earned the best team GPA in five different sports including men's soccer (3.52), men's basketball (3.41), men's track and field (3.29), women's volleyball (3.43) and women's basketball. The women's basketball team's 3.58 GPA was the highest for a GNAC team in any sport during the 2014-15 academic year.
 
The Falcons fielded two of the five teams that were champions both on the field and in the classroom. SPU captured GNAC titles in men's soccer and men's basketball.

Mark Collings
Under the direction of Coach Mark Collings, the Falcons claimed their sixth consecutive men's soccer conference classroom championship, and 10th overall, with a 3.52 GPA
 
The SPU booters posted a 16-2-2 record and advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the fourth straight season. They established a new school record with a 13-game winning streak during 2014.
 
The Falcons were the top academic men's basketball team for the fifth year in a row, this season with a 3.41 GPA.

Ryan Looney
Coach Ryan Looney's Falcons forged a 24-8 record and won an unprecedented third consecutive conference tournament crown. SPU participated in the playoffs for the 11th consecutive season, the longest active streak among Division II men's basketball programs.
 
The Academic all-sports standings are based on the cumulative grade point averages of all the athletes on the official team rosters including redshirts. Points are awarded on two-point increments.
