BELMONT, Calif. – Hannah Huesers' late goal, with 3:05 left to play Thursday, lifted 23rd-ranked Seattle Pacific to a 1-0 non-conference women's soccer victory over Notre Dame de Namur at Koret Field.

The Falcons (3-0) remained undefeated while registering their first road win of the season.

Huesers (Lake Stevens HS) raced to a long, through ball over the NDNU defense from senior Laura Moore (Kentwood HS). The junior forward took one touch into the box before blasting a 16-yard shot over the goalkeeper at 86:55.

"She just laced it," SPU interim coach Arby Busey described. "Hannah came in off that backside and smashed it right over the goalkeeper."

That was the team-leading second strike of the season for Huesers, who led all Great Northwest Athletic Conference scorers with 15 goals in 2014.

Molly Stinson
Sophomore goalkeeper Molly Stinson (Woodinville HS) kept her perfect ledger intact with three saves and her third shutout. She has not allowed a goal this season in 270 minutes between the posts.

"They got in behind us a couple times," said Busey. "We needed Molly today and she was big when she was asked to be in keeping them out of the net.

"Our back four wasn't as good as they have been, but they were good enough to see it out and get the result, a shutout. They were asked to do a lot more today than they have in previous games."

Two of Stinson's saves came during the first half. She denied a 19th-minute attempt by Erin Banda and then stopped a shot in the 28th minute by Marissa Torres.

Abigail Cebrero was credited with four saves for the Argonauts (0-3), who were outshot by a 13-6 margin.

"I was proud of the way that we just stuck to it until it happened for us late," Busey said. "It was a grind. All credit to Notre Dame, they came out and played really well. We weren't at our best, but it was good to be able to use our depth today to get us through.

"I hope it pays dividends down the road because they were a tough out today. It took everything we had to sneak out of there with a 1-0 result. You hope that it doesn't come down to this kind of thing in the future, but if it does we gained some perspective today in regards to being able to grind one out if that's what needs to be done."

The first half was scoreless despite the Falcons forging a 6-3 shot advantage. Senior Isabel Farrell (Interlake HS) had two of the team's three shots directly on target, forcing Cebrero to make two of her three first-half saves.

The SPU women remain in the Bay Area to play Cal State East Bay on Saturday. Kick-off is 4:30 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium in Hayward.
