DeKALB, Ill. – The Falcons were 2,000 miles away from their Seattle campus on Friday when Maria Hundley came within a fraction of eclipsing the school all-around mark. Coach Laurel Tindall believes that standard may be surpassed at home next week, with the added bonus that the current record holder will be in attendance.

Hundley was the top balance beam performer, tied the school vault mark and nearly broke the record in winning the all-around for Seattle Pacific, which posted a season-high 193.900 at the Northern Illinois triangular meet in Victor E. Court.

The NCAA Division II Falcons equaled the eighth-highest team total in their history and topped, by 0.85, the previous season-high mark of 193.050 tallied at Sacramento State on Feb. 5.

The mark of 193.900 was initially registered on April 12, 2013 at the USAG Championships. The SPU record of 194.575 was set the following year.

"We've got a ways to got to get that 194.575. We can go into the mid-194s if they all do a really good routine. We counted a 9.0 on the beam for our anchor score tonight instead of the usual 9.8, that's a huge difference right there."

Host Northern Illinois was the team winner with 194.900 points and Ball State was second with 194.775. They are both Division I competitors.

Hundley (Littleton, Colo.) amassed 39.20 points in the second-best all-around effort ever by an SPU gymnast. She moved into the No. 2 spot ahead of Alison Siegel, whose total of 39.125 was compiled in 2001.

Current assistant coach Sarah (Sullivan) Marshall, who recorded a total of 39.110 in 2007, was bumped into the No. 3 spot among all-time SPU all-arounders.

Hundley came within 0.05 of the school record of 39.250 established by Debra Huss on March 19, 2005 in Seattle.

Tindall anticipates that Hundley will claim the all-around record when the SPU gymnasts host a three-team meet on Friday, Feb. 26. They will be joined by Alaska Anchorage and San Jose State in the competition that begins at 7 p.m. in Brougham Pavilion.

"She'll get it next week. Next week is Alumni Night and Debra will be there. Maria just beat out Alison, who will also be there next week. That's the plan, to do it next week at home."

Included in Friday's four-event total was Hundley's second-place mark of 9.875 on the vault that matched the SPU standard on that apparatus. That score has been achieved nine times by a Falcons' vaulter, and Hundley accounted for four of those. She was the 2014 USAG collegiate champion on the vault.

Hundley topped Friday's beam field with a season-high score of 9.80 and junior teammate Tracie Villanueva placed third with a 9.750. Hundley is a two-time national beam champion.

"Maria had a great night and probably put together her best meet of the season," Tindall said. "Coincidentally, she did it after being sick all week. I don't know what that means, but we told her that she does have to work out in the future."

6825
Maryanna Peterson
The standout senior earned a 9.85 on the uneven bars to tie for third-place honors with freshman teammate Maryanna Peterson. That was a season-best score for both of them.

"Maryanna had a 9.85 on bars. She did a really nice bar routine," Tindall said of the product of Kent Mountain View Academy.

Hundley received a 9.675 in just her third floor exercise routine as a Falcon. She progressively improved in each of her three all-around outings, socirng a 37.775 on Feb. 5 and 38.000 on Feb. 12.

Ashley Potts of NIU had a second-place total of 38.925 in the all-around. Ball State's Denasiha Christian won the vault (9.975) and tied for first on the floor (9.90) with Megan Greenfield of Northern Illinois. Jamyra Carter from NIU scored 9.90 to win the bars.

SPU started the meet on the beam and, despite a couple falls, produced the meet's highest team total of 47.75 on that apparatus. That total featured season-high scores from Lauran Glover (9.65) along with Hundley (9.80) and Villanueva (9.75).

"We counted one fall on beam in the first event, and then we hit everything after that," Tindall said.

5988
Ariana Harger
During the second rotation the Falcons forged a season-best total of 48.70 points led by the third-place performance of sophomore Ariana Harger. She matched her career-high score of 9.875.

Another season-high team total tumbled in the third event when SPU scored 48.55 on the vault on the strength of four season-best performances. Hundley (9.875) and Brittany Atchison (9.575) reached career high marks while Glover (9.70) and Breanna Beltran (9.675) accomplished season bests.

The Falcons finished the met on the bars and improved their top total of 2016 by nearly a full point with a 48.900. Five season-high individual scores were erased and two of them were career bests. Along with Hundley and Peterson's matching mark of 9.85, Beltran scored 9.825, Carly Kano 9.675 and Renee Zografos 9.65.
