SEATTLE – Julia Haining scored a career-high 13points for Seattle Pacific, but Megan Mullings poured in 18 for Alaska Anchorage on Saturday night to lead the co-No. 1 Seawolves past the Falcons in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball game in Brougham Pavilion, 70-47.

UAA (30-1, 17-1 GNAC), which shares the No. 1 spot this week with Lubbock Christian of Texas, won its 18th straight game and clinched at least a tie for the conference title.

In addition to her 13 points off the bench, freshman center Haining (Lynnwood, Wash. / Inglemoor HS) tied her career high with eight rebounds, a total she first reached in last Saturday's 61-56 overtime victory at Simon Fraser. Her previous scoring high was 10, set on Feb. 2 in a 71-60 win against Saint Martin's. On Saturday, she hit all five of her field goal tries and was 3 of 5 at the foul line.

Haining was the only player for SPU (10-15, 7-11 GNAC) to reach double figures. Sophomore Courtney Hollander (Lynden, Wash. / Lynden Christian HS) had nine points and seven rebounds.

Saturday was Senior Night in Brougham in honor of center Molly Grager. She is the only senior on this year's team.

"One of our talking points going in was we wanted to make sure we competed as hard as they did on every possession," Falcons head coach Julie Heisey said. "They set the standard of just how hard to play all the time. I felt we did a good job of that. Our other goal was not to give up any points in transition, and that's the goal we didn't meet. Those things hurt."

Mullings got her 18 points, along with six rebounds, in just 17 minutes, as she was in foul trouble for much of the night.

"She has to be up for national player of the year," Heisey said of Mulings. "She's just so talented and is so fast. How many times did they throw a ball up tonight, and she comes down with it."

Alaska Anchorage scored the first six points of the game and led all the way except for a 6-6 tie, using an 8-0 run to snap that deadlock. Seattle Pacific got as close as two at 21-19 midway through the second quarter.

The Seawolves got a momentum boost heading into halftime when Jenna Buchanan beat the buzzer with a 3-pointer, stretching a five-point lead to eight at 34-26. A 12-point surge gave the Seawolves command during the third quarter, as they went from 36-31 to 48-31 in front.

Anchorage's tenacious pressure defense limited the Falcons to 25.9 percent shooting (15 of 58). UAA hit 45.5 percent (30 of 66).

"Our shooting has to get better," Heisey said. ":But that's what Anchorage does. That's what (defensive) pressure does is it speeds you up."

Seattle Pacific winds up the regular season next week, visiting Concordia in Portland on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. and Western Oregon in Monmouth next Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

"I felt like we did a lot of things well tonight," Heisey said. "The only thing that killed us was their transition, and that was mostly off of our turnovers. … But I'm really proud of our kids. We've improved a lot. We want to get better every day and finish our season strong."
