PORTLAND, Ore. –
Jalen Tims could have taken the weekend off. Instead, the Seattle Pacific standout just kept a good thing going.
Tims continued her outstanding senior year, clocking a personal-best1:01.30 in the 400-meter hurdles on Saturday at the Lewis &Clark Spring Break Open, and has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for women's track.
Jalen TimsThe time for Tims in her hometown of Portland, Ore., was the fourth-fastest in GNAC history. It also was an NCAA provisional qualifying mark, and currently ranks No. 4 in Division II.
Tims' performance came just one week after she ran the leadoff leg on Seattle Pacific's 4x400 relay at the NCAA indoor championship meet in Pittsburg, Kan., helping the Falcons to an All-American third-place finish. Tims also placed 17th in the open 400 meters at indoor nationals.
In February, she ran the second-fastest indoor 400 in GNAC history with a 55.21 in the conference finals. The only person ahead of her on that list is SPU teammate
Jahzelle Ambus, who won that race in a record-setting 54.87.
This is the first GNAC weekly award for Tims. It also is the second week in a row a Falcon has won it. Last week,
Lynelle Decker was honored for her three All-American performances at the NCAA indoor nationals.
SPU will return to action on Saturday by hosting the first Doris Heritage Distance Festival. Field events at West Seattle Stadium start at 10:00 a.m. Running events begin at noon, and the last race is scheduled for 3:55 p.m.
