• Blue Heron Sprints results (pdf)EUREKA, Calif. – The Seattle Pacific men's novice four-oared crew opened the meet with the closest race of the day and their first-year Falcons women's counterpart rowed to a convincing victory in the final event Saturday at the Blue Heron Sprints on Humboldt Bay.
The women's novice four crossed the finish line first in their maiden voyage, winning by 10 seconds over the runner-up crew from the California Maritime Academy. SPU streaked into the lead and steadily pulled away from the field, completing the 2,000-meter course in 7-minutes, 18.31-seconds. CMA finished in 7:28.96 followed by host Humboldt State (7:29.21) and Mills College (7:42.31).
The Falcons other two women's crews also debuted on Saturday. The varsity four placed a distant fourth with a time of 8:51.63. Mills won that race in 7:34.2 and Humboldt "A" (7:48.38) and "B" (7:56.16) boats finished two-three.
The first women's race of the day was the clash of varsity eights and SPU's crew was comprised of rowers from its two four-oared entries. Jasmine Pitzler coxed the crew that featured varsity rowers as the stern four and novices as the bow quartet.
Humboldt's top varsity eight boat finished first (7:20.84), followed by Mills (7:33.84), a second HSU crew (7:38.91) and the Falcons with a fourth-place time of 8:10.87.
Two rowers on the SPU women's novice four crewThe nine-race regatta opened with a two-boat race in the men's novice four category. SPU battled Cal Maritime down the entire length of the course before being edged by four seats. The winning time was 7:15.65, two seconds faster than the Falcons' 7:17.65.

Cal Maritime clocked a speedy time of 6:48.36 to top the varsity-four field. A second CMA crew was second in 7:08.81 with a bit of open water ahead of SPU. The Falcons finished in 7:13.27, well ahead of fourth-place Humboldt (7:28.10).
The SPU crews are in action next week at the Oregon State Classic on Saturday, April 2. The coed regatta takes place on Dexter Lake in Lowell, Ore.
