LOWELL, Ore. – Seattle Pacific's rapidly improving four-oared men's novice crew registered its first win Saturday and the varsity four was third in its race at the Oregon State Classic regatta on Dexter Lake.
The Falcons battled two Oregon boats down the 2,000-meter course in the novice race. The Ducks second entry dropped back while the others streaked to the finish line where SPU was two seats ahead in the end.
SPU clocked a time of 7-minutes, 23.69-seconds and Oregon's top crew crossed in 7:24.97. The Ducks second boat placed third in 7:56.78.
The first-year Falcons registered runner-up results in their last two outings and Saturday was their inaugural victory.
A trio of rowers from that novice four unit competed again just over one hour later, in the varsity four race. The crew exchanged
Zach Johnston for veteran
Logan Bryan in the No. 2 seat and switched coxswains from
Samuel Taylor to Jasmine Pitzler.
The Falcons faced a fresh group of Oregon rowers and it showed as the Ducks claimed the top-two places in the varsity race. The first-place time was 7:45.94 and second was 8:02.78. SPU was nine seconds back with a time of 8:11.62.
The SPU crews return to Lowell, Ore. next Saturday (April 9) to row in the Covered Bridge Regatta on Dexter Lake.
