VANCOUVER, Wash. – Seattle Pacific's four-oared novice men's crew raced to a runner-up finish Sunday and its varsity counterpart placed fourth at the Cascades Cup Regatta on Vancouver Lake, closing out their regular-season schedule.

The first-year Falcons clocked a second-place time of 7 minutes, 39.87 seconds over the 2,000-meter course. There was a sliver of open water between them and winner Puget Sound, which finished in 7:34.2. SPU crossed the finish line well ahead of third-place Western Washington (8:10.11), Lewis & Clark (8:22.34) and a second WWU entry (8:29.27).

A trio of rowers from that novice four boat, Cody Riggs, Arthur Emmons and Jake Shelton, along with coxswain Samuel Taylor, competed again less than two hours later in the varsity four race. That crew exchanged Zach Johnston for veteran Logan Bryan in the No. 2 seat.

The Falcons faced a fresh group of rowers from three opposing varsity crews and were fourth to finish, in 7:53.87. SPU trailed third-place Western Washington (7:48.55) across the line by just over a boat length.

Puget Sound won the race for varsity fours, posting a time of 7:18.54. Lewis & Clark was second in 7:22.63.

That was the final race of the year for the Falcons as a varsity crew.

The SPU men's and women's novice four crews compete next weekend at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships, April 30-May 1 on Lake Natoma in Gold River, California.
