PORTLAND, Ore. – For three seasons Hannah Huesers netted goals at a record rate for Seattle Pacific. Saturday morning, she made her first deposit of the 2016 campaign.

Huesers scored in the eighth minute and that margin held up for the Seattle Pacific women, who notched their second straight 1-0 non-conference, neutral-site decision with in a win over Dixie State.

"It's good for Hannah to get her account opened this season and hopefully she will continue to build from that," said second-year Falcons coach Arby Busey.

The Falcons (2-0) won their opening two games for the second year in a row, a feat they failed to accomplish the previous four seasons. SPU defeated Humboldt State 1-0 on Thursday, also at Concordia's Tuominen Yard. Maddie Krauss won that game on a golden goal with one minute left in the final overtime.

It was Huesers' turn to be the hero on Saturday. She gathered a loose ball during a scramble near the Dixie penalty spot and dribbled to the right before slipping a shot below the diving goalkeeper at 7:52.

"Typical Hannah, staying busy in and around the 18," Busey described. "She found a ball just in behind their back line and tucked it under the goalkeeper as she came out to try to close her down.

"Quality finish, the kind of thing that she is able to do on a pretty consistent basis for us."

The senior forward moved into a tie for the No. 4 spot among all-time Falcons with her 11th career game-winning goal. She tied Janae Godoy (2006-09) on a list that is topped by the 21 game-winners of Sarah Martinez (2004-07).

Huesers (Lake Stevens HS) also ranks fourth among the school's career scoring leaders with 36 goals, 13 shy of the standard of 49 established by Martinez. She was the 2015 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year and led the league in scoring in both 2014 (15 goals) and 2015 (14).

Junior goalkeeper Molly Stinson (Woodinville HS) made sure the one-goal lead held, picking up her second shutout and the 11th of her career. She recorded three of her four saves during the first half, including a denial of Darian McCloy in the 22nd minute that required a dive to the left post.

Stinson's sternest test came in the 52nd minute when a through ball broke McCloy free 30 yards from the goal. The Dixie forward drove into the box and was one-on-one with Stinson, who rushed out to smother a shot 14 yards from her goal line.

Busey praised the efforts of his defense, a unit that featured two new starters among the back four.

"They've been great. We've been able to kind of slow opponents down and make play extremely predictable for our guys on the back line. There were several instances today and also on Thursday when they rose to a challenge and got the job done."

The Trailblazers (0-2) got four saves from Angelica Ciucci, who faced seven shots while her teammates attempted six.

SPU's most dangerous non-scoring opportunity came just 2:15 into the contest when Brooke Lancaster (Sumner HS) raced to the ball near the left post and flipped a close-range shot that was collected by Ciucci.

"This was a pretty typical early season, Saturday game. Both teams didn't quite have the legs that they had on Thursday night," said Busey. "So, it turns into a more scrappy affair. We handled all of that extremely well in terms of playing on tired legs."

The Falcons visit Chico State on Sept. 7 before hosting their home opener against Metro State on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. in Interbay Stadium.
