Harger Wins Vault, is Fourth in All-Around

SPU scored 190.425 team points in first of seven straight road meets

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Ariana Harger shared top honors on the vault en route to a fourth-place all-around performance Saturday for Seattle Pacific, which started a stretch of seven straight women's gymnastics meets away from home with a triangular in Cadet West Gym at the Air Force Academy.
 
The Falcons surpassed the 190-point barrier for the third consecutive meet, registering a third-place score of 190.425. They finished well off the pace of their Mountain Pacific Sports Federation conference rivals. UC Davis compiled a winning total of 194.625 points and host Air Force was second at 194.500.
 
Harger (Castro Valley, Calif.) won the vault competition for the third week in a row. She achieved a season-high score of 9.825 to share first place with Alexis Brown of Davis.
 
Brown was also victorious on the uneven bars (9.825) and balance beam (9.875) to boast the top all-around total of 39.350. Brown tied for second on the floor exercise (9.825), an event won with a score of 9.850 by Air Force's Casey Bell.
 
An SPU junior, Harger came within 0.75 points of her own school record of 9.900 on the vault. She placed fourth with 38.325 all-around points. Freshman teammate Darian Burns was fifth with a four-event total of 37.600.
 
Burns (Atlanta, Ga.) was SPU's best floor performer with a seventh-place mark of 9.725.
 
The SPU gymnasts travel to St. Charles, Mo. for a pair of meets next weekend. They compete at the GymQuarters Invitational on Friday at noon Pacific Time. That quad meet at Family Arena includes teams from Nebraska, Brown and host Lindenwood, the defending USAG Collegiate champion.
 
On Sunday, Feb. 19 the venue changes to Hyland Arena on the Lindenwood campus for a triangular meet that features SPU, LU and Brown.
