SAN JOSE, Calif. – 
Ariana Harger collected a bronze medal on the vault and finished fifth on the floor exercise Saturday en route to a fifth-place all-around performance for Seattle Pacific, which finished fifth at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Women's Gymnastics Championships in The Event Center.
 
The Falcons compiled 192.775 team points to place in front of sixth-place Alaska Anchorage (191.750). That was their second-highest output of the year, trailing only a 194.100 registered March 11 at Washington.
 
Host San Jose State posted a score of 195.925 to capture the conference crown for the first time since 2004. Six-time champion UC Davis was the team runner-up Saturday (195.725) followed by defending titlist Sacramento State (195.715) and Air Force (194.075).
 
SPU is the only NCAA Division II team in the conference as all five other teams are Division I competitors.
 
Harger (Castro Valley, Calif.) received a score of 9.775 on the vault, tying for third with Kara Jones of UC Davis. The SPU junior's floor score of 9.825 put her in a fifth-place tie. Harger tied for 10th on the balance beam, with a season-high mark of 9.825, and tallied 9.550 points on the uneven bars.
 
Those four scores combined to net Harger a season-high total of 38.975 in the all-around.
 
Alexis Brown of UC Davis was the all-around medalist with 39.375 points, including score of 9.875 that tied for top honors on the floor with Taylor Chan of San Jose State.
 
Sacramento's Caitlin Soliwoda won the bars competition (9.925) and was the all-around runner-up (39.350).
 
Katie Nogaki (UC Davis) and Sophia Hyderally (Alaska Anchorage) shared the top spot on the balance beam with scores of 9.925. San Jose's Haligh Shepard was the vault champion with a 9.825.
 
The Falcons opened the meet on the bars, compiling a 47.475 team points. Freshman 
Darian Burns (Atlanta, Ga.) led the way with a career-high mark of 9.800 that was 0.25 points better than her previous best of 9.725.

Another Falcons freshman achieved her bars best, 
Miyuki Matsune (West Covina, Calif.). Her score o 9.725 was a 0.05-point improvement.
 
SPU rotated to the beam and combined to total 48.200 points, paced by Harger's 9.825. She was the 2016 MPSF beam co-champion with a 9.850, a scored surpassed by six competitors this year.
 
Also turning in a season-high beam effort was 
Lauren Glover (9.800) while senior classmate 
Breanna Beltran (Modesto, Calif.) had a career-high 9.475.
 
The Falcons sat out the third rotation on a bye before returning to compete on the floor exercise. Their score of 48.625 was the team's third-highest this year on that apparatus.
 
SPU put three gymnasts among the top-nine placers. Harger was fifth with a 9.825, Burns had a seventh-place score of 9.800 and Glover (Fort Collins, Colo.) was ninth at 9.775.

The five Falcons floor scorers earned a 9.600 or higher, but nobody notched a season-high figure.
 
The vault was SPU's final event and the lineup produced 48.475 team points. All five counting scorers were 9.625 or better, including Harger's 9.775. Burns' mark of 9.725 was good for 12th place and Glover was 15th at 9.700.
 
The Seattle Pacific women will next compete in the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships, set for April 7-9. They will host the three-day national championship meet at Brougham Pavilion on the SPU campus.
 
 The nine-team field and list of at-large individual qualifiers will be announced Monday.
 
This is the 35th time in 36 years that the Falcons have advanced to nationals. SPU won three national championships, in 1986, 1992 and 1997.
