BURNABY, B.C. – One for the team. One for her.

Somehow, that seems appropriate for Jordan McPhee.

The Seattle Pacific senior scored 26 points and tied the team record for best single-game free throw shooting percentage as Seattle Pacific led from start to finish on Saturday night and beat Simon Fraser in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball contest, 74-63.

SPU (12-3, 6-2 GNAC) completed a sweep of its two-game road trip, having won at Western Washington on Thursday night, 75-63.

"We're getting better, and different kids are stepping up," coach Julie Heisey said. "We still have things to learn, but we're able to learn with the win, and we won two road games back-to-back. Those teams are both young, but they're well-coached, and our conference is good."

McPhee (Normandy Park, Wash. / Mount Rainer HS) hit 13 of 14 from the foul line in West Gym. Her .929 percentage tied the Seattle Pacific record set 16 years ago by Karie Hughes. On Jan. 5, 2002, Hughes hit 13 of 14 in a home game against Western Washington. The record is based on a minimum of 10 attempts in a game.

On Saturday, McPhee hit her last six in a row, including four in the final minute to help ice the game.

That's the second free throw record in which McPhee has had a hand this winter. In the season-opening game against Humboldt State on Nov. 10, she was a perfect 6 for 6 at the line as the Falcons set a team record by hitting 95.8 percent (23 of 24). The old mark had been .929 (26 of 28) and had stood for 12 years.

McPhee hit 6 of 10 from the field on Saturday, also grabbing four rebounds, handing out four assists, and blocking two shots.

The Falcons took charge by racing to leads of 10-0 and 14-1. McPhee got eight of those first 10 points.

Seattle Pacific had a 42-23 advantage at halftime. But, as also happened on Thursday night at Western when the Falcons had a 21-point lead at the break, things went sour during the third quarter. Simon Fraser (8-8, 3-5 GNAC) hit its first four shots of the third, SPU missed its first seven, and the lead dwindled all the way to four at 43-39 on a 16-1 run by the Clan.

Julie Heisey
"We came out (after halftime), and I thought defensively, we were pretty good," Heisey said. "But our first eight possessions, we missed some shots and had three turnovers. The good thing was we got great shots, and we can make those. But it took away our momentum."

Then, 49-44, SPU went on a 9-0 run bridging the third and fourth quarters, pushing the bulge back to 14 at 58-44. The Clan never got closer than eight after that.

The game essentially was won at the foul line. Seattle Pacific, as it had one less field goal than Simon Fraser (23-22), including three fewer from 3-point range. But the Falcons drained 26 of 34 free throws; the Clan shot just 12 and hit 10.

"We made great defensive stands," Heisey said. "We were able to get to the line, which was good. When you're not hitting, you have to find ways to get easy baskets. So even though we were scoring, we found ways to get to the line."

Senior forward Courtney Hollander added 11 points for the Falcons. She also grabbed six rebounds, had two assists and two blocked shots despite spending some time on the bench in foul trouble.

-- Senior center Julia Haining led the way with nine rebounds. She has led the way on the boards in four straight games and eight games this season. She also co-led with Hollander in one game.
-- Of Saturday's 74 points, 30 were scored off Simon Fraser turnovers.
-- Seattle Pacific, after nine turnovers in the first half, had just five in the second – and only two of those during the fourth quarter.
-- McPhee and Hollander both passed 900 career points on Saturday. McPhee now has 922; Hollander has 910.
-- The last time Seattle Pacific swept this road trip was just as the calendar turned to 2015: a 74-64 win at Western on Jan. 1, and a 61-56 decision at Simon Fraser on Jan. 3.
