COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –
Darian Burns won the all-around competition Saturday and teammate
McKenna Zimmermann was the runner-up for Seattle Pacific, which finished a distant second to Air Force in a women's gymnastics dual meet at West Cadet Gym.
Burns compiled a four-event total of 37.875 that would have been higher except for a fall on the balance beam. She finished fourth on the floor exercise with a score of 9.700, an event in which she is the defending national USA Gymnastics Collegiate champion.
The sophomore from Atlanta, Georgia earned a season-best mark of 9.725 on the uneven bars and scored 9.500 on the vault.
Zimmermann, a freshman, totaled 36.850 points in the all-around led by a 9.525 vault.
Air Force registered a season-high score of 194.275 to win the team competition. SPU had a two-week streak of 190-point scores snapped with a total of 189.250. The visitors had multiple falls on both the bars and beam, forcing them to count two of them in each event team tally.
The hosts captured all four event titles, including two triumphs from Anna Salamone, who shared top honors on the vault (9.700) and bars (9.850). Casey Bell was the final floor performer and earned the title with a 9.825 routine.
Analise Howard prevailed on the beam with the highest score of the night on any event, 9.875.
SPU sophomore
Miyuki Matsune turned in a fourth-place mark of 9.775 on the beam despite having her left hand wrapped while recovering from an injury. That was the highest score for any Seattle Pacific gymnast in any event. The 9.775 was a season-high score for Matsune and equaled her career best.
