DAVIS, Calif. –
Darian Burns earned two season-high event scores Friday en route to the finest all-around performance of her career for Seattle Pacific, which compiled a fourth-place women's gymnastics score of 190.750 against a field of NCAA Division I opponents at The Pavilion on the UC Davis campus.
Burns registered a four-event total of 38.775 to surpass her previous best of 38.550 established in the season opener. The SPU sophomore placed seventh in the all-around on the strength of a career-high mark of 9.750 on the balance beam that was good for seventh place. A 9.700 effort was her uneven bars best this year.
Falcons' freshman
Haven Lanzador tied for ninth place on the bars with a career-high mark of 9.750. She also posted her best beam performance and was rewarded with a 9.650.
"This was her best meet. Haven had a great bar routine, the best one I've seen her do," said SPU coach
Laurel Tindall. "She was our top person on bars and then she led off on beam and did really well.
"Haven is definitely capable of doing this consistently in meets because she does it in the practice gym. Bars and beam are the events we recruited her for, and if she can maximize those two events that's going to be great for us."
Stanford's Elizabeth Price topped the bars field with a 9.925 that was the highest score achieved by any gymnast in the four events. She is the nation's top-ranked competitor on the bars with a 10.0 to her credit.
Price is a former U.S. National Team gymnast and an alternate on the 2012 Summer Olympic squad. She tied for first place on the vault with teammate Rachael Flam, each producing a 9.875 on Friday.
The Cardinal, ranked 21st nationally, finished atop the team standings with a season-high score of 196.050. Host UC Davis was second with 195.150 points and San Jose State placed third at 192.975.
The Division II Falcons' score of 190.750 was their second-best effort of the season, trailing only the 191.325 notched in the season opener on Jan. 12 in Seattle.
SPU's tally was a huge improvement from their only other road outing this season. Several falls in that meet on Jan. 19 in Boise, Idaho led to a score of 186.875 that was the program's lowest since 2011.
"We obviously did a lot better than our last road meet," Tindall said. "But we left the door open on a lot of things that we could have done better tonight. We still counted some falls and had an out-of-bounds deduction on floor."
UC Davis teammates Kyla Kessler and Alexis Brown shared the beam title with scores of 9.825 and Kessler also tied for first on the floor exercise with a 9.875. Stanford's Flam shared that floor crown, but claimed the all-around championship for herself with 39.375 points.
SPU's
McKenna Zimmermann had a 10th-place total of 37.275 all-around points and
Itzia San Roman was 11th with 36.525.
FLOOR
The Falcons opened the meet on the floor and produced a fine score of 48.225 that is their second-best of the season.
In the second floor routine of her collegiate career, freshman
Jadacie Durst established a new career high with a 9.650. That improved upon the 9.500 that she posted last week in her SPU debut at Brougham Pavilion.
Burns anchored the floor lineup and turned in the top score with a 9.775. Zimmermann matched Durst's 9.60 tally and
Kylie Reese had a 9.625.

VAULT
An equipment failure created a 15-minute delay for the Falcons, who repeated their touch warm-up after a faulty piece was replaced on the vault.
The unconventional pre-event routine may have had an impact as SPU's team score of 47.325 was its lowest of the season on that apparatus by two-tenths.
None of the Falcons reached a season high, but the five counting marks were bunched together with similar scores to offset the fall by No. 5 competitor
Lena Wirth. Burns boasted the team's top mark of 9.550, followed by matching 9.500 results by Zimmermann and San Roman.
Zahra Lawal earned a score of 9.425 and
Shelbi Spivey a 9.350.

Lanzador was spectacular, shattering her previous bars best three-tenths with a 9.750.
Burns registered a season-high 9.700 followed by the final Falcons competitor,
Sienna Brane with a 9.650.
Kylie Reese eclipsed her career-best performance with a score of 9.550.

BEAM
Lanzador opened the final rotation on a good note with a score of 9.650. She was the first of three Falcons to achieve a career-high on the beam.
Burns' mark of 9.750 bettered her previous best of 9.725 and Wirth received a 9.675 to improve upon the 9.650 she posted last week.
Despite having to count a fall on the beam, the trio of career highs propelled the Falcons to their second-best team performance of the season on the beam. Their combined total of 47.525 points was eclipsed only by the total of 47.725 from the season opener.
