SEATTLE – The seniors certainly had their day. But a couple of junior grabbed some of the spotlight, too.
Cici West celebrated Senior Day with her ninth double-double of the season, but it was junior
Madi Hingston who lit up the scoreboard, pouring in a career-high 17 points as Seattle Pacific kept its women's basketball postseason hopes alive by beating Alaska Fairbanks, 67-60.
By winning the Great Northwest Athletic Conference game in Brougham Pavilion, the Falcons (8-17, 7-11 GNAC) stayed on the heels of Concordia-Portland and Montana State Billings for a spot in the conference tournament. Those two teams were set to meet later on Saturday in Portland.
Redshirt senior forward West finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds. She tallied the first eight points of the game for the Falcons, who trailed just once, that at 7-6 midway through the first quarter.

HIngston drained 7 of 12 from the field, including 3 of 6 from behind the 3-point line. Her previous high was 14 points just two weeks ago on Feb. 9 at home against Northwest Nazarene. Fellow junior
Jade Skidmore added 10 points, putting her at 999 for her career.
Senior guard
Jaylee Albert handed out five assists, giving her 89 for the season. Senior center
Carly Rataushk came up with six points and seven rebounds. Senior guard
Riley Evans had just three points, but it was a timely trey from the left corner with 2:53 left in the game that pushed SPU's lead back into double digits at 65-53 and effectively sealed the deal.
Whenever Seattle Pacific seemed ready to pull away, Alaska Fairbanks (4-20, 1-17 GNAC) pulled back into the game. The Falcons were up 25-15 midway through the second quarter, only to see the Nanooks get back within three at 29-26. SPU tallied the last five points of the half and took a 34-26 lead into halftime.
The margin was back down to three at 42-39 with 4:38 left in the third. Seattle Pacific pushed it back to 10 at 49-39 on a lay-in by Rataushk, a 13-foot jumper by
Jade Skidmore, and a 3-pointer by Hingston.
SPU took an 11-point lead into the fourth quarter, 53-42. The Nanooks got as close as six at 57-51 with 5:47 still on the clock. The Falcons then went on an 8-2 run, capped by Evans' trey, to put it out of reach.
