WOODLAND, Calif. –
Darian Burns earned all-conference acclaim in three events and the all-around while three Seattle Pacific teammates were also recognized when the 2019 All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) women's gymnastics teams were announced Thursday.
SPU gymnasts
Miyuki Matsune,
Itzia San Roman and
McKenna Zimmermann also received All-MPSF accolades.
Burns (Decatur, Ga.) is the fourth-ranked floor exercise performer in the six-team conference that includes five NCAA Division I teams and Division II SPU. She was a first-teamer on that apparatus with a regional qualifying score of 9.840.
The Falcons junior won the floor competition in three meets this year, including a season-high 9.875 score on Jan. 11 at Sacramento State.
Burns also garnered first-team honors on the uneven bars (9.775), where she ranks No. 4 among MPSF performers. Her high bars output was 9.825, a score she achieved on three occasions.
She earned second-team acclaim from the conference on the vault (9.735) and all-around (38.695) after claiming three vault titles in meets this season and twice topping the all-around field.
Last year, Burns was a second-team All-MPSF honoree in the all-around, vault, bars and floor.
Miyuki Matsune
For the second straight season, Matsune (West Covina, Calif.) was named to the MPSF's second team for the balance beam. The junior gymnast's regional qualifying score is 9.685 and she boasts a high score of 9.750.
McKenna Zimmermann
Zimmermann (San Jose, Calif.) and San Roman (Burnaby, B.C.) were second-team selections in the all-around.
An SPU sophomore, Zimmermann has been an All-MPSF second-team honoree in both of her collegiate campaigns. She led all Falcons all-arounders twice, highlighted by a four-event total of 38.600 on March 1 in her hometown of San Jose.
Itzia San Roman
San Roman was named to the All-MPSF second team despite not competing as an all-arounder in the last four meets. An injury has limited her availability on the vault and floor. She compiled her season-best score of 38.175 on Jan. 18 at home and was SPU's all-around leader on Jan. 25.
That quartet of all-conference honorees will lead the Falcons in the MPSF Championships, which they host on Saturday night. That March 23 conference meet is slated for 6 p.m. in Brougham Pavilion.
