SEATTLE –
Darian Burns tied her career high on the uneven bars Saturday, was the top scorer for host Seattle Pacific on that event and on the vault, and was fifth in the all-around at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships women's gymnastics meet.
The Falcons finished sixth in the team competition in Brougham Pavilion with 192.400 points. In a tight three-way battle for the championship, Air Force came out on top with 195.725 points for its first team title in the 18 years the MPSF meet has been contested.
Two-time defending champion San Jose State had a runner-up total of 195.450 and UC Davis was third with 195.200 points. Alaska Anchorage compiled 194.200 points to finish fourth and Sacramento State was fifth with 192.425, just 0.025 ahead of the NCAA Division II Falcons who are the only non-Division I competitor in the conference.
Darian Burns
SPU junior Burns scored a 9.850 on the bars, giving her a tie for fourth place on that event, and came up with a 9.800 on the vault, good for a third-place tie. She shared the awards platform with junior teammate
Lena Wirth, whose career-best tying 9.775 vault put her in a fourth-place tie.
Burns had a four-event total of 38.300. Right behind her was sophomore teammate
McKenna Zimmermann with a sixth-place score of 38.250 in the all-around.
Sophomore
Kylie Reese set a career high on the floor exercise with a score of 9.800, leading the Falcons and tying for eighth place overall.
SPU's top beam performer was junior
Miyuki Matsune, who tied for 18th with a mark of 9.725.
Anna Salamone of Air Force captured two titles, taking the vault with a 9.875 and the bars with a 9.925. Teammate Tyler Davis claimed the floor crown with a score of 9.950.
Sophia Hyderally of Alaska Anchorage was the beam champion with a 9.900.
San Jose State's Taylor Chan captured the all-around title, edging Davis, 39.300 to 39.250. Kelley Hebert of UC Davis was third at 38.925.
VAULT
• SPU set a season-high with 48.675 points. That was nearly three-tenths above its previous high of 48.400, set at UC Davis on March 8.
• Zimmermann got it started with a season-high 9.725. That was better than the 9.625 she scored not once, not twice, but four times in the past, most recently in the March 8 meet at Davis.
• Burns got it finished with her 9.800.
• Junior
Lena Wirth tied her career high with a 9.775., tying for sixth.

• Seattle Pacific matched its season high with 48.425 points. The Falcons also had that many in a home quad meet on Feb. 15 against Air Force, Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Jadacie Durst set the tone with a 9.625 on the lead-off routine, tying her career high.

Haven Lanzador set a season high of 9.625, exceeding her previous best of 9.550, then senior
Itzia San Roman followed her with a 9.650 to tie her season high.

•The team's final event of the night for was a rough one, as the Falcons totaled just 46.775 points.

• The Falcons tied for their second-highest total of the season with 48.525 points, tying what they scored at Sacramento State in the season opener on Jan. 11.
• The only higher total was 48.825 at San Jose State on Jan. 25.

Kylie Reese's career high 9.800 beat her previous best of 9.750 set last season. Her top score in 2019 had been 9.725 in last week's regular-season finale at Oregon State.

UP NEXT
SPU will find out Monday which of its gymnasts will compete at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships. The Falcons will not qualify as a team, but expect several gymnasts to earn at-large invitations to the national meet that is slated for April 12-14 in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
