ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Darian Burns won the vault and uneven bars competitions and tied for first place on the floor exercise Sunday, leading the Seattle Pacific women's gymnastics team to a second-place team score of 191.425 at the Lindenwood quad meet in Hyland Arena.

Burns execute an outstanding 9.825 vault and topped the bars field with a score of 9.800. She and Lindenwood's Ryan Henry shared the floor title with matching marks of 9.825.

"It's just really awesome to see Darian have confidence and be able to lead the team through her gymnastics," first-year SPU coach Sarah Jean Marshall said. "She's so incredibly talented and she's really finding her role on this team and was able to hit some really great performances today."

The host Lions handily won the meet with a 194.475-point team total. Trailing runner-up SPU was third-place Centenary with a score of 188.925 and Gustavas Adolphus in fourth at 184.800.

A trio of Lindenwood gymnasts tied for first place on the balance beam with scores of 9.800; Katie Bailey, Mackenzy Chavez and Courtney Mitchell.

Only a subpar performance on the beam prevented Burns from notching her fourth consecutive all-around victory. Instead, she settled for third place with a four-event total of 38.675.

The SPU senior entered Sunday's event averaging 9.600 points on the beam. Hitting that average, instead of the 9.225 she did receive, would have pushed Burns' total to 39 points and an all-around win.

Several other Falcons excelled in events, adding up to seven top-six finishes.

SPU gymnasts captured three of the top-four places on the bars, led by Burns 9.800. Sophomore Ciello Magsanide registered a career-high, turning in a third-place score of 9.725.

"That was so great to see Ciello do so well," said Marshall. "She made a mistake on that event on Friday and she was really hungry to get back in competition and hit an awesome set. That's exactly what she did."

SPU senior Sienne Brane was rewarded for a fine bars set with a fourth-place score of 9.700.

Sophomore Kayla Chan achieved a fifth-place mark of 9.750 on the floor for the Falcons.

"There were a lot of positives overall for the meet," Marshall concluded. "It definitely wasn't our best performance with our team score, but some great things happened."
