COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Senior Darian Burns tied the school-record on the vault and compiled the program's second-highest all-around score Saturday, leading Seattle Pacific to a winning team total at the Air Force Triangular in Cadet West Gym.

Burns was the Falcons' final competitor on their last event. She stuck her vault landing and received a spectacular score of 9.900 from the judges that pushed her all-around total to 39.375. Burns tied the SPU vault record established by Ariana Harger on April 9, 2016.

The NCAA Division II Falcons compiled 193.750 points to finish atop of a tight field for the team title and improve their previous season-best mark by 0.175. Division I competitors Illinois State (193.650) and host Air Force (193.425) placed second and third, respectively in the final team standings.

Burns record-tying performance gave her the vault championship. She also topped the floor exercise field with a score of 9.875 and was the leading all-arounder.

The four-event total of 39.375 improved Burns' previous career-high figure of 39.225. She came within 0.25 of the school-record of 39.400 set on April 8, 2016 by Maria Hundley. Burns earned matching marks of 9.800 on the uneven bars and balance beam, placing third in both events.

"Today's meet was definitely highlighted by Darian's performances," exclaimed first-year SPU coach Sarah Jean Marshall. "She had a huge vault and stuck the landing for a big 9.9 score, which is a school record.

"Darian came out with a lot of energy and was really steady on all of her events, getting big scores on each rotation. She really led the team and it was awesome to see her put all four events together in a huge way and come out with an all-around score that only one other gymnast in the history of SPU gymnastics has achieved."

SPU junior Jadacie Durst claimed fourth-place on the floor exercise with an impressive career-high score of 9.825.

Falcons freshman Alixandra Pierce finished among the top-six in two events. She was sixth on the beam at 9.750 and tied for fifth on the floor with a 9.800.

For the second straight week, SPU hit its season-high team score high into the 193-point range. Last week's home meet on Jan. 31 produced a mark of 193.575.

"We had another really exciting meet and came out with a huge win," Marshall said. "It was a really close meet and came down to the last event to see who was going to come out on top. We were happy to be there.

"This team is continually showing that they are capable of big things. It's so amazing to watch them improve with each meet and build confidence and unity as we work through the season."

The Seattle Pacific gymnasts return to the Midwest next weekend with a two-meet trip to St. Charles, Missouri. They compete at the GymQuarters Invitational on Friday, Feb. 14 and at the Lindenwood Quad on Sunday, Feb. 16. Both quad meets are slated for noon Pacific Time starts.

VAULT
• The final competitor in SPU's last rotation accomplished something only one Falcon had done in history. Darian Burns tied the school record of 9.900 set in 2016 by Ariana Harger. Burn's previous career high on that apparatus was 9.825.
• The Falcons finished the meet in fine fashion, besting its previous high this year by nearly half a point in that event with 48.300 team points (47.875 previous).
• Along with Burns, two other SPU gymnasts generated career-best marks, both with scores of 9.575. Alixandra Pierce tied her career-high and Delaney Fields topped her previous best of 9.425.

Ciello Magsanide established a new career-high mark with a 9.675 (9.625 previous) and Sienna Brane improved her season best with a 9.700 (9.650 previous).
Darian Burns did a brilliant job of anchoring the lineup, equaling her season-best score of 9.800.

• Sparking the lofty team total were three career-high marks and two season bests. The career bests came from Miyuki Matsune with a 9.700 (9.625 previous), Jadacie Durst at 9.825 (9.750 previous) and Alixandra Pierce with a 9.800 (9.725 previous).
• Perhaps tiring of scoring "only" 9.8s, Darian Burns received a season-best 9.875 (9.825 previous) and Kylie Reese's 9.700 was good enough to surpass her season-high (9.575 previous).
