INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The stellar senior seasons of Seattle Pacific gymnasts Darian Burns and Miyuki Matsune were saluted as each was accorded All-America acclaim when the 2020 women's collegiate nationals All-America list was released by USA Gymnastics (USAGym).

Burns garnered four All-America awards as a first-team selection in the all-around, vault, uneven bars and floor exercise. Matsune was a second-team balance beam honoree.

USAGym teams graphic 2020The complete list of gymnasts recognized represent the 12 Division I, II and III colleges and universities whose women's gymnastics programs operate with fewer than seven-and-a-half full scholarships. These include Brown, Centenary, Cornell, Lindenwood, Seattle Pacific, Southeast Missouri State, Southern Connecticut State, Texas Woman's, Air Force, Bridgeport, West Chester and Yale.

While All-American selections are typically based on results from the USAGym Women's Collegiate National Championships, given the truncated conclusion to the 2020 season, this year's honorees were determined based on cumulative performance results through week 10 of the regular season. The top-10 finishers in each event and the top-eight all-around gymnasts were named first team All-Americans. The next finisher(s) in each event and next two all-around athletes were selected to the second team.

The gymnastics season was cut short due to concerns over the spread of coronavirus and the USAGym Championships, scheduled for April 9-11 in Ithaca, New York, were canceled.

Burns boasted the Falcons' top score over all four events in 2020, with a 9.800 or higher in each. She was also the team's top all-around competitor. She compiled 11 event wins, five on the vault, four on the floor and two on the bars. Burns claimed three all-around titles and has reached the 39-point plateau six times during her career, equaling the school record.

In her final home routine at Brougham Pavilion, on Feb. 21 versus San Jose State, Burns concluded the competition with a career-high 9.925 performance on the floor. That was the second-best score ever recorded by an SPU floor competitor.

At that same meet in Brougham Pavilion, Burns posted a bars score of 9.875 that also surpassed her previous career best and was the seventh-highest mark produced by a Falcon.

A score of 9.900 on Feb. 8 tied the school record on vault. That lofty output propelled Burns to an career-best, four-event total of 39.375. She was just shy of the school's all-around record, coming within 0.025 points of the 39.400 score that Maria Hundley tallied in 2016.

A product of West Covina (Calif.) High School, Matsune capped an outstanding career that featured steady success on the most unsteady of apparatuses.

She previously received all-conference beam accolades for the third straight season from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.

Matsune registered her season-high beam score of 9.800 on two occasions in 2020, on Jan. 31 at home and Feb. 29 at Alaska Anchorage in the Falcons final meet. Her career-high mark of 9.850 was achieved in 2018.

Matsune is a two-time national beam qualifier and was recognized as an All-American in 2018.

Burns and Matsune helped the Falcons to a 9-8 overall record in meets this season against a group of predominantly Division I opponents.
