Falcons Forster Banks Another Brace

Six players score for #8 SPU in 7-0 triumph at Central

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Lauren Forster banked her second brace Thursday and five other players netted a goal for the eighth-ranked Seattle Pacific women, who routed Central Washington 7-0 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference soccer game at Tomlinson Stadium.

Forster found the back of the net in the 26th and 67th minutes to take sole possession of the team's scoring leadership with six goals. She previously posted a two-goal game versus Montana State Billings on Sept. 23.

"She's somebody who is sneaky fast and has this innate ability to just kind of sneak a toe around somebody's else's foot and nick goals. At one point she ended up putting the ball and herself into the goal," said SPU coach Arby Busey. "She's really an intelligent soccer player who put herself in some good spots tonight and took advantage of those moments."

Three SPU players each contributed a goal and assist; Sophia Chilczuk, Claire Neder and AJ DePinto. Accounting for the other two goals were Chloe Gellhaus, who started the scoring at 22:01, and Jacqueline Blakeley, who ended it at 70:17.

The third and fourth goals came 20 seconds apart, early in the second half. Chilczuk finished a cross by Neder from close range at 48:56 and the Falcons proceeded to intercept a pass soon after Central kicked off.

Sophie Beadle received the ball out side and was fouled hard on a rapid dribbling run into the right side of the box to earn the free shot. Neder stepped to the 12-yard spot and lined the ball inches inside the left post at 49:16.

LAUREN FORSTER 1ST GOAL

The Falcons (9-1-0) improved to 6-1-0 in league play to remain in a tie atop the GNAC standings with Western Washington. Their winning streak stretched to four games.

Central never seriously threatened as the Falcons goalkeepers were not required to make a save en route to the team's league-leading eighth shutout. The stingy defense allowed only two shots, preventing either of them to be sent directly on goal. The SPU opponent's scoreless streak remains active at 364-minutes, 55-seconds.

Junior Kaitlynn Knocke started in goal for SPU before yielding to backup Delaine Polly, a freshman, in the 74th minute.

Only two foes have found a goal against the Falcons fierce defense. SPU has outscored opponents by a lopsided 30-2 margin.

"It's a collective mentality that we've got in terms of the defending and that certainly starts with the goalkeepers and those backline players. With their communication up the field and the way that they go about handling their job, it's contagious," Busey said.

"We're in a great place where everybody on the field is really dialed in on that side of the ball. All 11 of them are working together to keep our opponents out of the net and recover the ball as quickly as we can. It's led from the back and those guys have been awesome in the moments when they've been called upon."

Liz Canton played between the posts for the Wildcats, making six saves and surrendering all seven goals before being replaced in the 76th minute by Kassandra Jaggard. The reserve goalkeeper was credited with two saves for CWU, which was outshot by a commanding 22-2 count. SPU put 15 of those shots directly on frame.

The Falcons controlled the action from the start.

Only one minute into the contest and the visitors already produced a close chance. Chilczuk fired a shot from the right side of the box that went inches wide of the left post.

Four more shots followed before Gellhaus struck paydirt on SPU's sixth shot. A cross from the left wing was slightly deflected by the goalkeeper and the ball ricocheted into the goal at 22:01.

CHLOE GELLHAUS GOAL

The eighth shot, by Forster off a nifty assist from Chilczuk, produced the team's second goal, at 25:37, and still Central hadn't managed a shot.

After nine unanswered shots by SPU, the Wildcats got their first attempt, an effort by Sophia Keenan that was wide to the right.

The 2-0 halftime margin quickly increased on the rapid goals 20 seconds apart.

Forster's second score, on a scramble in front of the goal off a feed from DePinto, came at 68:34. DePinto got into the scoring column at 66:09 with a shot from distance following a long run with the ball.

Blakeley's concluding goal, with just under 20 minutes to play, came on a brilliant dribbling run and low blast from 19 yards.
