3 Chilczuk Assists + 2 Rietz Goals = Win

Falcons undefeated in last , start 3-game homestand Thursday

BURNABY, B.C. – Sophia Chilczuk distributed a school-record three assists Saturday, two of them setting up goals by Makena Rietz in fourth-ranked Seattle Pacific's 3-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer win over Simon Fraser at Terry Fox Field.

The trio of assists equal the SPU single-game standard accomplished on five previous occasions. Chilczuk increased her league-leading total to 10 assists, the most accumulated by a Falcon since 2011. She is tied for fifth on the school's single-season assist list.

The senior forward moved up the career assist chart as her new total of 27 is tied for second all-time with Michelle Sanders (2001-04) and Shannon Lovejoy (2002-05). The Falcons career record of 34 assists was compiled by Meredith Teague from 2005-08.

The Falcons (11-1-1) stretched their unbeaten streak to seven games while solidifying their position atop the conference standings with an 8-1-1 mark.

For the fifth time this season, Rietz got the game's first goal. She scored first on Thursday, just 51 seconds into a 3-0 triumph at No. 12 Western Washington.

On Saturday, Rietz struck in the seventh minute and found joy again exactly nine minutes later. She has seven goals this season, tying with Lauren Forster for the team lead. Five of her goals have been game-winners.

MAKENA RIETZ 2ND GOAL

Toni Miranda found the target from long distance with less than nine minutes to play to complete the scoring.

Senior goalkeeper Riley Travis stopped two shots en route to her sixth clean sheet. That was the 10th overall shutout for the Falcons, who have surrendered just three goals all season while scoring 37 themselves.

Nicole Anderson made five saves for Simon Fraser, which was outshot by a lopsided 17-3 margin.

GAME SUMMARY
The visitors had some quality opportunities early, including a first-timer in the fourth minute by Claire Neder that went just wide to the right of the Simon Fraser goal.

Three minutes later, Chilczuk hammered a shot from 28 yards out that narrowly missed the top left corner.

The Falcons found the back of the net on their third shot.

Neder retrieved a ball from Chilczuk in the right side of the area and served a left-footed cross to the top of the 6-yard box. Rietz raced to the ball and volleyed a blast into the left side of the goal at 7:17.

Four minutes later Rietz had an opportunity to double that lead with the ball around the left post and only the goalkeeper to beat. Her attempt harmlessly ended up in the outside netting.

The next SPU attempt breached the goal, again off the foot of Rietz. The senior midfielder raced into the box to reach a right-side cross from Chiczuk and used the outside of her left foot from top of the 6 to steer the ball inside the right post at 16:17.

The shot count was 10-0 at halftime in favor of the Falcons.

Simon Frasers' first shot didn't come until nine minutes into the second half. Giuliana Zaurrini lined a 29-yard attempt that induced a diving save to the left post by Travis.

The hosts' second attempt was also on frame, requiring another stop from Travis. That came off the foot of Annika Gross.

An SPU breakaway in the 68th minute ended with Chilczuk launching a shot just wide of the right post.

At 81:34, Miranda notched her first goal of the season, and the third of her career. She sprinted to the ball and quickly struck a left-footed shot from 25-yards out that nicked off the left hand of the goalkeeper and caromed into the goal off the right post. Chilczuk and Kathryn Nyone were credited with assists for her initiating passes on the play.
