Division II Conference Information Directors select fifth-year Falcon for award

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Ashley Alter's performance in last week's pair of women's basketball victories for Seattle Pacific has made a splash on the national scene.
 
Alter was named the NCAA Division II Women's Player of the Week by the D2 Conference Information Directors Association (D2CIDA).

That comes on the heels of her winning the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week award on Tuesday.
 
A 5-foot-11 guard / forward in her fifth year with the Falcons, Alter averaged 24 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 blocked shots in last week's homecourt victories against Northwest Nazarene and Central Washington.
 
In the NNU game last Thursday, Alter had a career-high 14 rebounds to go along with 17 points, two assists, a career high-tying five steals, and one blocked shot as SPU won, 58-45. The double-double was the third of her career.
 
On Saturday against Central Washington, Alter went for a career-high 31 points, hitting 10 of 19 from the field, including 6 of 12 from 3-point range. She grabbed another nine rebounds, had two assists, two steals, and one blocked shot.

"Ashley is such a good player, it's really cool to see her not only get conference recognition, but national recognition, too," head coach Mike Simonson said. "We see it every day. We know she's a really good player, and she's coming into her own at the right time. So we're really excited about this honor and excited to see her have even more success on the court the rest of this season."
Alter comes into this week tied for No. 6 in GNAC scoring at 16.4 points per game, tied for No. 10 in rebounding at 6.5 per game, and is No. 5 in steals at 2.0 per game.
 
The Falcon standout is the second GNAC player this year to win the national award. It previously went to Valerie Huerta of Central Washington on Nov. 22 and again on Dec. 21.
 
Seattle Pacific takes to the road this week, visiting Western Oregon in Monmouth on Thursday at 7:00 p.m., and Saint Martin's in Lacey on Saturday at 5:15 p.m.
