SEATTLE – The Seattle Pacific University men's soccer team welcomed Saint Martin's to Interbay Soccer Stadium on Saturday night, where the Falcons took an early 2-0 lead over the Saints before the visitors came from behind to take the match 3-2.
The Falcons got on the board in the 8th minute of the match. Orlando Erazo worked against his defender down the left side of the field. He crossed the ball into Joseph Van Horn. Van Horn got a foot to it in front of the goal. He smashed it upwards from four yards out for the goal. It was Van Horn's first of the season.
In the 28th minute, the Falcons earned a penalty kick after the Saints committed a foul in the box. Raymundo Mendez stepped forward to take the penalty kick. He put the Falcons up 2-0 with his seventh goal of 2023.
The Saints cut the Falcons lead in half in the 39th minute. David Settle found the back of the net. Still, SPU led 2-1 at the end of the first half. The Saints added two more goals in the second half. Angel Alvarado-Fajardo scored the game-winner in the 82nd minute.
"Any time you give up a lead, it's tough," head coach Kevin Sakuda said. "We had some opportunities in the second half to close out the game. We didn't take them. We knew they had quality guys, and they would be dangerous in transition, and we got punished for it. We needed to make plays, and we didn't.
