LACEY, Wash. – The Seattle Pacific University men's soccer team traveled south to face Saint Martin's on Thursday afternoon where the Falcons were dominant, launching 23 shots while shutting out the Saints 2-0 powered by a pair of second half goals.
The Falcons were relentless on offense throughout Thursday's match. They had quantity and quality, sending in 23 shots with 13 on goal. At the same time, the SPU defense limited scoring chances for the Saints.
"It was a good win today," head coach Kevin Sakuda said. "We were thrilled with the overall performance of the guys. It was great to see Brady get his goal, and Joey again put himself in a great spot to score. We could've had a couple more, but it was great to get the clean sheet and close the game out."
The Falcons broke through at the beginning of the second half. SPU was on the attack when Isaac Ketcham created an opportunity for the Falcons. Joseph Van Horn got a foot to the pass from Ketcham and got the Falcons on the board. Van Horn's second goal of the season put the Falcons up 1-0.
SPU added to their lead in the 53rd minute. Orlando Erazo crossed the ball into the box. Fendrich was on the receiving end. He shot the ball into the lower left corner to score. It was Brady Fendrich's second goal of the season.
Cam Welty played the full 90 minutes in goal for the Falcons. Evan Aune, Jackson Goode, Nick Ramoso, and the rest of the SPU defense gave their keeper a light load against the Saints. Welty faced six shots and had to make just one save. He recorded his second shutout of the season.
The Falcons have another road game this weekend. They'll travel to Monmouth, Ore. for a match against Western Oregon on Saturday at 11 a.m.
