GREENWOOD, Ind. –
Vanessa Aniteye has picked up yet another award.
This time, it's for her work in the classroom as well as on the track, as the Seattle Pacific senior has been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team for women's cross country / track & field.
Aniteye, who won the NCAA Division II indoor women's 800-meter championship, is an exercise science major with a 3.61 grade-point average.
This is her first Academic All-District award. She also was named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Academic team for the fourth time.
The past winter indoor season was Aniteye's last as a collegian – and she made the most of it.
Having previously starred in the 400-meter dash, Aniteye moved up to the 800. She ran eight times, and won all eight, whether it was heat races (five) or the overall race (three).
Her winning time at the D2 nationals in Virginia Beach, Virginia, was a school-record 2 minutes, 6.84 seconds. She thus finished her two seasons at SPU (2022 outdoors, 2023 indoors) with three school records. Along with this one, she owns the Falcon outdoor standards in the 400 (53.64) and as part of the 4-by-100 relay (45.88).
To qualify for the Academic All-District team (previously known as CoSIDA Academic All-District), student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher and must have significant athletic accomplishments, as well.
