GOLDEN, Colo. – The Seattle Pacific University women's soccer team went mile-high to take on #2 Colorado School of Mines for its biggest early-season challenge thus far. Taylor Krueger and Andie Buckley scored their first goals for the Falcons, lifting the team over the Orediggers 2-1 on Saturday evening.
"Fun game tonight," head coach Arby Busey said. "The venue is amazing, atmosphere was fantastic, and two good teams played a great game." We feel very fortunate to get out with a result. Mines is an unbelievably talented team, and they gave us fits all night."
The Falcons erased an early 1-0 deficit. Mines got on the board in the 15th minute as Bella Campos scored her fourth goal this season.
The Falcons answered in the 35th minute. Saint Louis University transfer Krueger scored her first career goal with the Falcons. It was timely, as she leveled the match 1-1.
Buckley arrived as a Falcon on Saturday evening. Once again, Krueger was making things happen for SPU. She got the ball to Andie Buckley, who found the back of the net in the 69th minute. It was Buckley's first career goal and first game-winner.
"These types of games are so fun," Busey added. "They ask so much out of everyone involved.Couldn't be happier for our group. They worked their socks off tonight and got rewarded for it. We have been playing very well all season, and haven't had the results, but we got one tonight. Excited to begin conference play next week."
The Falcons open Great Northwest Athletic Conference play on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. when SPU hosts MSU Billings.
