Falcons and Wolves Settle for Tie

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Seattle Pacific University women's soccer team took on Western Oregon in a rare morning match on Saturday when Mercedes Cullen picked up her second shutout in as many games. Still, the Falcons finished in a deadlock with the Wolves.

"Unfortunate result today, but loved the way we played," head coach Arby Busey said. "We did some really good things together. We got another shutout. Mercedes was great when needed and we defended well in front of her."

For the second consecutive match, the Falcon's defense stood firm against their opponents. Kailalani Ahuna, Ella Smith, Kathryn Nyone, and Landrey McCann combined to find ways to limit the Wolves' chances. Ultimately, WOU sent in eight shots, with three on goal. Cullen made three saves and kept the Wolves off the scoreboard.

The Falcons offensive pressure was constantly put on the Wolves, especially in the first half. SPU had 11 shots in the first 45 minutes. In the final five minutes of the first half, the Falcons had six shots, four of which were saved by the WOU keeper.

Things opened a bit for Kayla Wallace in the second half. She launched two shots toward the net, but neither fell. SPU led the shot totals 14-8 by the end of the match and had a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Falcons and Wolves settled for a 0-0 tie.

The Falcons return to Seattle to host Simon Fraser on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Interbay Soccer Stadium.
