SEATTLE - The Seattle Pacific University women's soccer team honored Lauren Snedeker, Kathryn Nyone, and Landrey McCann before their match against Saint Martin's on Saturday.
Snedeker, Nyone, and McCann have been critical members of the SPU women's soccer program for the past four seasons. The trio has played more than 12,000 minutes for the Falcons. They've combined for four All-GNAC awards, two All-Region awards, four Academic All-District awards, and eight Academic All-GNAC awards. On Saturday, the group got recognition from their teammates, family, and friends which was well-deserved.
"We honored three women who have been amazing in giving everything that they have to their teammates, coaches, and this program," head coach Arby Busey said. "They've shown up everyday, and have given everything they can to SPU women's soccer. It was a nice moment for all of us to show our appreciation to them."
Like Thursday's match against Western Oregon, the Falcons attack was aggressive early on. The Falcons created nine shots while holding the Saints to just two. Nyone nearly created some senior-day magic with a shot that narrowly missed. Instead, SPU and SMU went into halftime tied 0-0.
The Saints took the lead in the 55th minute. Rose Ivanis sent a ball to Eve Charles, who scored for SMU. Suddenly, the Falcons had to find a way to come back.
SPU's answer came late in the second half. Andie Buckley scored the equalizer in the 87th minute. Buckley's second goal of the season tied the match 1-1.
In the final minute, the Saints were awarded a crucial free kick. The ball was loose in the box when Brianna Yamada got a foot to it and scored. The goal gave the Saints a lead they'd hold onto for the final 22 seconds of the game.
The Falcons are on the road next week, starting with a match against Central Washington in Ellensburg, Wash. at 7 p.m.
