SEATTLE – Raymundo Mendez and Connor Tollan assisted on each other's goals for the Seattle Pacific University men's soccer team on Saturday night against Western Washington, but the Falcons and Vikings left Interbay Soccer Stadium with a 2-2 tied.
Raymundo Mendez and Connor Tollan have played massive roles in the Falcon's offensive attack in 2024. Both players find themselves at the top of the team's leaderboard in goals and assists. The duo teamed up to do damage against the Vikings on Saturday.
Tollan opened the scoring in the 24th minute for the Falcons. Mendez set the goal up with a pass that was deflected but still found the feet of Tollan. Tollan scored from four yards out to put the Falcons up 1-0.
The Falcons took back the lead in the 69th minute. A foul committed by the Vikings set up a free kick for the Falcons. Tollan stood over it before sending it into the box. Mendez launched into the air to get a head on it and score. The GNAC leader in goals scored his fifth of the season and gave the Falcons a 2-1 lead.
"Those guys have been fantastic for us this year," Sakuda said. "They offer a ton of quality going forward and we saw that again tonight."
The Vikings found a way to tie the match in the 80th minute. Albin Johnson scored the equalizer that put the final 10 minutes of the match into the Frenzy.
Mendez had one more quality look for the Falcons in the 84th minute. He hit the crossbar in an attempt that would have been the game-winner. Instead, both teams walked away with a tie.
"It was a competitive game tonight, which it always is against Western," Sakuda said. "Disappointing to not close that out, but I was proud of the effort from our guys."
The Falcons are back at Interbay Soccer Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. when they host Western Oregon.
