SEATTLE – The Seattle Pacific University men's soccer team hosted Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday night when the Toros scored four goals in the second half to put away the Falcons 6-2.
The Falcons put together a solid first half against the Toros. They leveled the score 1-1 in the 19th minute. 2023 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year and First Team member
Raymundo Mendez found the back of the net.
Judah Johnston sent a ball into the box, where Mendez flew through the box and finished from 10 yards out.
Mendez was involved in the SPU's second goal of the match in the 58th minute. He found
JJ Diaz in open space, who scored from 12 yards out. The goal was Diaz's first of the season, while Mendez recorded his first assist of 2024.
Diaz's moment brought the Falcons to within a goal of the Toros, but they went on to score three unanswered goals and take the game 6-2. The last time the Falcons allowed six goals happened on Oct. 6, 2018, when Simon Fraser took down the Falcons 6-1 at home.
A handful of Falcons made their 2024 debuts in Thursday's game.
Donovahn Allen,
Owen Swartout,
Jesse Thrall,
Cristian Chel Lara, and
Chase Nelson all saw time in the match.
SPU returns to Interbay Soccer Stadium on Saturday for another tough test when #3 Cal State LA is in town for a 2 p.m. match.
