Wallace & MacKay score, Falcons Tie with Wildcats

SEATTLE – Kayla Wallace and Moira MacKay scored goals for the Seattle Pacific University women's soccer team on Saturday, but a goal in the 80th minute from the Wildcats led to a 2-2 tie with the Falcons at Interbay Soccer Stadium.

The Falcons erased an early 1-0 deficit in the 32nd minute. Nora Patterson put in a great effort to poke the ball away from the Wildcats in SPU's attacking third. She crossed the ball in, but it was batted down by the keeper. The ball fell to the feet of Wallace, who punched it in from a tough angle to score her fifth goal of the season. The score was leveled 1-1.

In the 63rd minute, MacKay gave the Falcons their first lead. Maya Parman put a perfect pass in front of MacKay, who hammered it past the keeper for the goal. MacKay's third goal of 2024 put the Falcons up 2-1.

The Wildcats found a way to tie the match 2-2. Camryn Toole snuck one into the back of the net. Natalie Boles and Ashlyn Valdovinos had chances for the Falcons in the final 10 minutes, but neither went in for the win.

"Much better effort than there was on Thursday," head coach Arby Busey said. "So, that's something that we can, we can lean into at the end of the day. It's something our group can grasp onto. I thought we were in control of things. We're going to have to figure out a way to see those types of games out as we grow and mature as a team. That one was there for us to win, and credit Chico for coming back and fighting, and making it 90 minutes. And it's a good lesson for us to learn as we grow and mature as a group."

SPU launched 19 shots with nine coming on goal. Chico State had 11 shots with five on goal. The Wildcats created seven corner kicks to just three from the Falcons. Mercedes Cullen was in goal for SPU and picked up three saves.

The Falcons don't have a match next week and open Great Northwest Athletic Conference play on Sept. 26 against Montana State University Billings at 1 p.m. PST in Billings, Mont.
