SEATTLE – The 12th-ranked Seattle Pacific University men's soccer team had its nine-match unbeaten streak ended on Saturday night at Interbay Soccer Stadium by Western Washington, as the Vikings scored in the second half and held on to a 1-0 lead over the Falcons.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons sent in five shots in the first 20 minutes of the match.
- Rafael Lucio had a good look at a goal in the 25th minute, but it was saved by the WWU keeper.
- Brian Lanier came up big in the 36th minute of the match, diving to his left and saving a would-be goal for the Vikings.
- In the 50th minute, WWU's Albin Jonsson gave the Vikings the lead, with assists going to Joar Tidblom and Jose Perez.
- SPU took a free kick in the 56th minute that found Shriner at the far post, but his shot from a short distance was saved.
- Lucio had another strike from distance in the 75th minute that missed just high.
- In the 82nd minute, the Falcons suffered a red card that forced them to play down a man for the remainder of the match.
- Diego Pena-Salgado found enough room to get a shot off for the Falcons in the final minute, but it bounced off the post.

- The Falcons had 17 shots compared to seven from the Vikings.
- SPU put six shots on goal while WWU had two shots on goal.
- Lucio had six shots for the Falcons, two of which were on goal.
- Shriner had four shots for SPU, with two being on goal.
- Brian Lanier got the start in goal for the Falcons and made one save in 90 minutes of play.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Falcons lost a match for the first time since Sept. 4 at Stanislaus State.

For the first time since Sept. 13, the Falcons will spend the weekend on the road. SPU travels to Western Oregon for a match on Thursday, Oct. 16 at noon, followed by a match against Saint Martin's on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 3:00 p.m.
