Lucio Ties SPU Record as Falcons Tie Red Leafs

SEATTLE – Rafael Lucio tied the SPU record for shots in a half and scored his third goal of the season for the 12th-ranked Seattle Pacific University men's soccer team against Simon Fraser on Thursday evening, as the Falcons and Red Leafs played to a 1-1 draw at Interbay Soccer Stadium.

"Conceding early makes that game an uphill battle but credit to the guys, they continued to attack and stack possessions," head coach Kevin Sakuda said. "We did a lot of really good things tonight but just couldn't find the winner."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Leafs got on the board early when Dominique Kundalini Bien-Aimé beat his defender and rifled a shot with his left foot into the right side of the net from 23 yards out.
    • Kunalini Bien-Aimé's goal put the Red Leafs up 1-0 in the 8th minute.
  • Rafael Lucio tried to tie the match in the 19th minute, but his shot was saved.
  • The Red Leafs packed their defensive end of the field for most of the first half, limiting the chances for the Falcons.
  • SFU owned a 1-0 lead over SPU at halftime.
  • In the 55th minute, JP Guzman came close to tying the match, but his shot was saved.
  • SPU's Brian Lainer made a crucial save in the 58th minute to keep the deficit at one.
  • Cristian Chel Lara had a shot deflected that Lucas Witthauer ripped toward the net, but missed high in the 64th minute.
  • In the 71st minute, JP Guzman drew a foul in the box to set up a penalty kick for the Falcons.
  • Lucio stepped forward to take the penalty kick and tie the match 1-1.
  • Lucio nearly gave the Falcons the lead in the 82nd minute, but the shot was saved.
  • Lucio had one last chance in the 90th minute to win the game for the Falcons, but his shot was blocked.
  • The Falcons and Ref Leafs settled for a 1-1 tie.
