Falcons Overmatched by Mavericks

NAMPA, Idaho – The Seattle Pacific University women's basketball team wrapped up the GNAC/RMAC Challenge on Saturday against 11th-ranked Colorado Mesa, where the Falcons' offensive struggles couldn't overcome the Mavericks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A slow start hindered the Falcons against the Mavericks, as SPU trailed CMU 14-9 after the first 10 minutes of the game.
    • The Falcons went 4-for-18 from the field during the first quarter.
  • The Falcons were down six before Layne Kearns, Grace Leasure, and Grace Turley hit back-to-back-to-back baskets to tie the game at 20 with 5:53 left in the first half.
  • Layla Senderson splashed home a 3-pointer at the end of the first half, cutting the Mavericks' lead to eight points at halftime.
  • SPU's struggles reappeared in the third quarter, as the team shot 20 percent in the period.
  • At the same time, the Mavericks caught fire, scoring 31 points while making 70 percent of their attempts from the field.
  • CMU kept its distance from SPU in the fourth quarter to take the game 86-55.

  • Turley led the Falcons with 12 points while going 2-for-3 from 3-point range in Saturday's game.
  • Leasure was two rebounds away from a double-double, scoring 11 points while pulling down eight rebounds for the Falcons.
  • Naomi Hotchkiss had a big game on the glass, grabbing seven rebounds for SPU.
  • Kearns led the team in assists with three.

  • Leasure set a new career high in rebounds with eight on Saturday.
