Falcons Defend Well in 0-0 Tie with Toros

CARSON, Calif. – The Seattle Pacific University men's soccer team wrapped up a California road trip with a match against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday afternoon, where defense ruled the day as the Falcons and Toros played to a 0-0 draw.

FROM THE COACH
"It wasn't the prettiest today, but credit to the group, they kept another clean sheet," head coach Kevin Sakuda said. "There are days like this where you aren't always at your best, so to still get something out of that game shows a lot of character. Dominguez Hills are a good team and asked a lot of questions of us today. I was proud of the fight we showed in both games in California. We look forward to the next stretch of games at Interbay."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Orlando Erazo tried to get the Falcons on the board in the sixth minute, but his shot was blocked by the Toros defense.
  • Brian Lanier had a big moment in goal for the Falcons in the 16th minute, making back-to-back saves to keep the score tied.
  • The SPU defense blocked three shot attempts from CSUDH in the first half.
  • Lanier made saves in the 33rd and 36th minutes of the match for the Falcons.
  • In the 47th minute, Owen Swartout ripped a low liner that was saved by the CSUDH keeper.
  • The Falcons had one last chance in the 87th minute when JJ Diaz had a shot that was scooped up by the Toro keeper.
FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • The Falcons trailed the Toros 14-2 in shots.
  • The Toros gained a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks over the Falcons.
  • Erazo and Swartout had one shot each for the Falcons.
  • Lanier made five saves in 90 minutes in goal for the Falcons.
