Late Runs Lift Falcons over Red Leafs in Overtime

BURNABY, B.C. – The Seattle Pacific University men's basketball team used a 7-0 run in the final 31 seconds over regulation to force overtime against Simon Fraser on Saturday night, then turned to a 10-0 run over the final 2:06 to secure a 72-69 victory over the Red Leafs.

"Winning is hard," head coach Keffrey Fazio said. "Especially on the road. Really proud of our team and their resilience. Needed the road split and found a way."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Grant Coleman banked home a layup with 11:00 left in the first half that sparked a 20-10 run for the Falcons.
  • The run gave the Falcons a 32-27 lead at halftime.
  • A layup from Trace Evans gave the Falcons a 36-35 lead with 16:29 left in the game.
  • The layup from Evans started a 14-9 run that put the Falcons up 48-44 with 10:20 left to play.
    • Mora had six points during the run with two made 3-pointers.
  • In the final 9:49, the Red Leafs went on an 18-7 run to take a seven-point lead with 41 seconds left in the game.
  • Connor Drinkwine hit a layup, Evans banked one home, and McMillan dished it out to Coleman for a wide-open 3-pointer that tied the game 62-62 with 18 seconds left.
  • The SPU defense stood tall, forcing overtime with the Red Leafs, with the game tied at 62.
  • The Falcons trailed by five points with 2:06 left in overtime, when Coleman hit a 3-pointer, Drinkwine made a layup, and Brant Heppner splashed home a 3-pointer to give the Falcons a 70-69 lead.
  • Mora hit a pair of free throws late in overtime to help the Falcons secure a 72-69 victory over the Red Leafs.

  • Mora finished with a game-high 17 points and tied for a team-high six rebounds against the Red Leafs.
  • Evans helped the Falcons with 14 points and tied Mora with a team-high six rebounds.
  • Drinkwine scored 12 points while Coleman added 11 points for the Falcons on Saturday.
  • McMillan tied for a game-high six assists for the Falcons on Saturday.
