Game Recap: #25 Men's Soccer |

Falcons Complete Comeback on Legacy Day, Defeat Chico State 4-2

SEATTLE – After going down two goals in the first half, the 25th-ranked Seattle Pacific University men's soccer team stormed back with an offensive onslaught in the second half of their match against Chico State, beating the Wildcats 4-2 on Legacy Day at Interbay Soccer Stadium.  

HOW IT HAPPENED  

  • Less than 90 seconds into the match, the Wildcats took the lead with a goal from Simon Vaca-Lorenzi that was assisted by Nathan Murff and Darius Dukes.  
  • In the 10th minute, the Wildcats were threatening as a shot attempt deflected off an SPU defender and into the back of the net to put the visitors up 2-0.  
  • The Wildcats held a 2-0 lead at halftime.  
  • In the 55th minute, the Falcons cut into the lead when JP Guzman snuck a ball around the Wildcat defense to move the score to 2-1.  
  • Shortly after, the Falcons tied the game when Sebastian Rangel pushed the ball forward to Judah Straight before David Ochoa tapped it into the back of the net.  
  • Straight wasn't done impacting the game, as he gave the Falcons the lead in the 62nd minute.  
  • In the 77th minute, the Falcons put the game away when Rangel sent in a corner kick that Kasey Toevs headed into the goal, giving SPU a 4-2 lead. 
  • Willem Ficek and the SPU defense kept Chico off the board for the entire second half, helping the Falcons pick up the 4-2 victory.  

FROM THE BOX SCORE  

  • The Falcons finished the match with 21 shots, 11 of which were on goal.  
  • SPU played with urgency in the second half, sending in 14 shots over 45 minutes. 
  • SPU earned chances with corner kicks, gaining eight attempts compared to one from Chico.  
  • Guzman was active for the Falcons, leading the group with four shots.  
  • David Ochoa had three shots and a goal, while Rangel, Rafael Lucio, Isaac Ketcham, Straight, and Isaac Grimes sent in two shots. 
  • Ficek played all 90 minutes in goal for the Falcons, facing eight shots and making three saves for the Falcons.  

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE 

  • The SPU men's soccer team celebrated the 40th anniversary of the 1986 national championship-winning team with a halftime ceremony in front of the fans at Interbay Soccer Stadium.  

UP NEXT 

The Falcons are back home next weekend with a match against Westmont on Thursday, Sept. 3 and 7th-ranked Point Loma on Saturday, Sept. 5. Both matches start at 7:00 p.m.
