BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The 23rd-ranked Seattle Pacific University women's soccer team battled Western Washington throughout Saturday night's road match, creating several quality scoring opportunities before ultimately falling to the Vikings 3-0 in Bellingham.

FROM THE COACH
"I really loved how we started the game tonight," head coach Arby Busey said. "We had a ton of energy and did some awesome things with the ball! Unfortunately had one bounce out off the inside of the post, but we showed how dynamic we can be together in our attack! I thought we played with great spirit throughout the game, and stuck together through some challenging moments! We'll grow from tonight and be ready for the opportunities we have next week."

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Andie Buckley nearly gave the Falcons the lead in the 4^th minute of the match, but her shot was saved by the WWU keeper.
• Natalie Carroll had a try in the 21^st minute that was saved by WWU's Ellie McGowen.
• Jaylee Curran had a shot on goal in the 24^th minute that was saved by the WWU keeper.
• The Falcons and Vikings were tied until the 32^nd minute, when Madeline Mays scored off assists from Triya Mitchel and Reese Walker to put the up team up 1-0.
• Mays scored her second goal of the game in the 42^nd minute, when Arriannah King and Mia Cairns set up a 19-yard rocket from Mays that found the back of the net to put WWU up 2-0.
• The Falcons trailed the Vikings 2-0 at halftime.
• Ashlyn Valdovnios tried to cut into the WWU lead in the 66^th minute, but her shot was saved by McGowan.
• The Vikings added a third goal in the 87^th minute when Walker scored into the top right corner off passes from Ariana Lopez and Ruby Senffner.
• The Falcons fell to the Vikings 3-0 on Saturday night. 

FROM THE BOX SCORE

• The Falcons had 10 shots against the Vikings, four of which were on goal.
• SPU found a way to earn two corner kicks, both coming in the second half.
• Nora Patterson led the Falcons with three shots, while Curran, Buckley, Valdovinos, and Carroll each had one shot on goal.
• Landry Schoennauer played 90 minutes in goal for the Falcons, facing 12 shots and making two saves.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

• The Falcons took on a Viking team that hadn't allowed a goal since Sept. 13 against Colorado School of Mines.

UP NEXT
The Falcons host two Great Northwest Athletic Conference matches next week. It starts with a match against Northwest Nazarene on Thursday, Oct. 1, at 3:00 p.m., followed by a match against Central Washington on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 1:00 p.m. Both matches are at Interbay Soccer Stadium.
