For the eighth time since 2016, a feature meet of the local collegiate outdoor track & field season will be the Doris Heritage Invitational, hosted by Seattle Pacific University on Friday, April 5.

The meet will have a different twist this year. Instead of taking place on a Saturday, it is scheduled for a Friday, and will be a twilight meet.

For the second straight year, competition will take place Renton Memorial Stadium, alongside the Cedar River and adjacent to the Renton Boeing plant.

Known as the Club Northwest Spring Break Open through 2015, the Doris Heritage Distance Festival in 2016 and 2017, and then the Doris Heritage Track Festival from 2018-23, it is one of the longest-running meets in the Seattle area. All college and university teams from around the Northwest will be invited. The records from the Spring Break and Doris Heritage meets meet carry over into this one.

The entry deadline is Tuesday, April 2, at 11:59 p.m.  All entries will be done via www.directathletics.com. The entry fee is $30 per athlete, with a team cap of $350 per gender. All payments will be received on DirectAthletics.

Only in-uniform, collegiate athletes will be allowed to compete: No club, open, or unattached athletes. However, we will host a separate 1500 race for any non-collegiate athlete (club, open, unattached) who wishes to compete. This will be run as a kind of exhibition race during the meet. The entry for that event is also being done through DirectAthletics, also at $30 per athlete. Look for "Doris Heritage Invitational (Club, Open, Unattached)".

Best efforts will be made to accommodate all entries from invited schools. However, it is possible that the total accepted entries  in some of the field events might have to be limited in order to fit the schedule.

No late or day-of-meet entries will be accepted. High school athletes will not be accepted.

We will make adjustments after entries are received so we can run a smooth and efficient meet. Please note that we are NOT offering the following events: 400 hurdles, 10,000m, 3000-meter steeplechase, and hammer.

A final list of entries and heat assignments will be posted on Thursday, April 4 on the Doris Heritage Track Festival information page.

SCRATCHES:  Please email scratches to lerumk@spu.edu as soon as you know them.

RENTON MEMORIAL STADIUM
The stadium is owned by the Renton School District, and is the high school home venue for Renton, Hazen, and Lindbergh, hosting football, soccer, and track & field. It has covered stands on both the north and south ends, and can seat approximately 5,000.

The track surface and the football / soccer turf were both replaced in 2020.

The main parking lot is on the south side of the stadium (adjacent to the large home grandstand) and can accommodate approximately 450 vehicles. It also has 12 ADA parking stalls.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS – Whether coming from north or south on Interstate 5, take Exit 154 toward northbound I-405. Follow 405 north to Exit 5 State Route 900 / Sunset Blvd. Turn left off the exit and follow that road past Renton Boeing (on your right) and The Landing shopping center (on your left) for approximately 1½ miles. Renton Stadium will be on your right.

If coming from Bellevue or other points on the Eastside, head south on I-405 to Exit 5 State Route 900 / Sunset Blvd. Turn right off the exit, then drive past Renton Boeing and The Landing to Renton Stadium.

If coming north on SR 167, follow it past the major intersection at Grady Way, at which point it becomes Rainier Avenue. Continue north until coming to the Renton Avenue Extension (another major intersection) and get into the right-turn lane. Follow that road for approximately half a mile (it will curve around to your left), and the stadium will be on your left.

The address of Renton Stadium is 405 Logan Ave. N., Renton, Wash. 98057.

Doris Heritage competing.ABOUT DORIS HERITAGE
Pioneer. International star. The First Lady of American distance running.

Whether on tracks around the Northwest, around the country, and even around the world, legendary Doris Brown Heritage is synonymous with the sport - and with Seattle Pacific. Furthermore, she made a name for herself long before women's sports came to enjoy the kind of support and interest that is present today.

Heritage won five straight international cross country titles from 1967-71. She was a two-time Olympian (1968 and 1972), and at one time owned every American and world record from the 440 to the mile. She and Dr. Ken Foreman brought national athletic prominence to Seattle Pacific and to its male and female track and cross country athletes.

She is a member of six national halls of fame, and is a charter member of the Falcon Legends Hall of Fame. In February 2018, she received the Royal Brougham Award at the annual Seattle Sports Star of the Year banquet for her lifetime of achievements and as someone "who exemplifies the spirit" of the state of Washington.
