Prior to SPU:  Helped Damascus Christian win the Oregon Class 1A (small school) state championship as a sophomore in 2023 after a runner-up finish in 2022 … Two-time All-State … As a freshman in 2022, won state track & field championships in the long jump and 300-meter hurdles, and was named Athlete of the Meet.
 
Personal:  Ava Marie Mai. .. Psychology major. ... Her grandfather went to SPU during his freshman year and ran track.

Coach Byers says:  "She's an aggressive defender. I'm really excited to see how she can cause some problems on the defensive part."

Reason she chose SPU:  "I was attracted to SPU because of the environment beautiful campus, and welcoming atmosphere. There are so many things to do in Seattle."

Fun facts:  Has played basketball for 11 years prior to arriving at SPU. ... Also has played volleyball and done track. ...
