    Faculty Athletics Representative
Dr. Eric Long is Seattle Pacific’s Faculty Athletics Representative.
 
Each NCAA institution has someone in that position. That person is a member of the faculty who has been designated to serve as a liaison between the school's faculty and the athletic department. The role of the FAR is "to ensure that the academic institution establishes and maintains the appropriate balance between academics and athletics.
 
At SPU, Long also represents the school in conference and NCAA matters.
 
Long is a native of Pennsylvania. He earned his bachelor of science degree from Wheaton College, his master of science from the University of North Dakota, and his doctorate in wildlife ecology from Penn State.
 
He joined he faculty at Seattle Pacific in 2006. He teaches upper-division courses in ecology, conservation biology, forest ecology, tropical ecology, biostatistics, and vertebrate biology. He also teaches sections of the introductory biology sequence.
 
Outside of the classroom, Long loves spending time outdoors – and that often serves as another classroom for him, as some of his courses are taught at SPU’s field station on Blakely Island in the San Juans (northwest of Seattle), or elsewhere abroad.
