SEATTLE (Sept. 6) – Alyssa Given hit two of her 22 kills in the decisive fifth game as Seattle Pacific University defeated cross-town rival Seattle University Thursday night at Brougham Pavilion for its 28th straight in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.

Courtney Alberi (Fr., Castaic, Ca.) added 13 kills, including two in the final game, as the Falcons (1-0, 6-3) prevailed, 27-30, 30-26, 31-29, 21-30 and15-6.

Seattle Pacific also won its 19th in a row overall at home and has 21 straight in GNAC play at Brougham Pavilion.

Given (Sr., Salinas, Ca.) added 21 digs and four blocks. Angie Wodrich (Sr., Richland, Wa.) contributed 11 kills.

Nikole Thompson led the way for SU, getting 12 kills in the contest, with her teammates Emily Powell, and Libby Graff right behind her at 11 kills each.

The Falcons' Joelle Perez (Fr., Vancouver, Wa.) had 58 assists in the match, while Rachel Biornstad (Sr., Kent, Wa.) had nearly a double-double, with nine kills and 10 blocks.

Neither team could sustain momentum, due in part to their hitting. The Redhawks  (0-1, 3-6) were held to a .057 attacking percentage and SPU finished at .138 and managed only one service ace.

The Falcons host Montana State Billings Saturday at 7.
