SEATTLE -- Senior midfielder Shannon Oakes and junior forward Jocelyn Charette each had a goal and an assist as the 15th-ranked Seattle Pacific women defeated Central Washington in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer game on Wednesday night at Interbay Stadium, 3-0.

Freshman Brandi Hamre (Bremerton, Wash., Central Kitsap HS) drilled in a rebound early in the 81st minute for SPU's third goal.

Oakes' goal was her second of the year, Charette's was her third, and Hamre's was her third. Falcons senior Meredith Teague (Redmond, Wash., Bellevue Christian HS) earned one of the assists on Charette's goal, her team-leading seventh of the year.

Junior goalkeeper Jesslyn Rahm (Eugene, Ore.) picked up her fourth shutout of the season. SPU's shutout was its third straight and seventh in the last eight games. The Falcons have allowed just one goal in the last 756 minutes.

Seattle Pacific (9-1-1 overall, 3-1-0 GNAC) moved into sole possession of second place in the conference as they extended their home unbeaten streak to 26 games. SPU is 25-0-1 at Interbay since a loss to Seattle University on Sept. 30, 2006, including a 5-0-1 mark this season. Seattle Pacific and Central Washington came into the game tied for second in the GNAC behind undefeated Western Washington (3-0-0).

“I think they (the Wildcats) have improved vastly, so it's nice to dominate a team that you're tied for second place with,” said SPU coach Chuck Sekyra, whose squad outshot Central, 17-3. “We played a very well-balanced game from beginning to end.”

Charette, (Lakewood, Wash., Curtis HS) set up the goal by senior Oakes (Boise, Idaho, Boise HS) with a nifty heel pass. Oakes took the ball to the top of the penalty area restraining arc and fired it into the roof of the net over the outstretched arms of Central Washington goalkeeper Amber Easterbrook at the 25:44 mark.

Charette's assist was her fourth of the season.

Seattle Pacific made it 2-0 early in the second half. Oakes got the ball down the right wing side and found Teague at the top right corner of the box. Teague floated a target ball toward the far post, and Charette went up for the header at the top of the six-yard box and the ball nestled into the left side of the net at 51:22.

Oakes also got an assist on that goal, her third of the year.

The final goal for the Falcons came right in front of the Central Washington net. Janae Godoy took the initial shot, which was blocked. But the rebound came right out to Hamre, who drove it into the back left corner from six yards in front.

Seattle Pacific has a week off before returning to action on Oct. 8 in Monmouth, Ore., against Western Oregon.
