SALEM, Ore. –
Alli Cutting ran way in front of the Seattle Pacific pack and also was well up in a very large field on Saturday morning, taking 50th place overall in the Charles Bowles Invitational cross country meet at Bush's Pasture Park.
Cutting's time for the 5-kilometer course around and through the Willamette University campus was 18 minutes, 32.23 seconds. That put her in the upper fifth of the 257 finishers.
SPU finished 21st among the 24 teams with 553 points. Idaho won with 55.
The eight Falcons behind Cutting were all bunched within a minute of each other. Leading the way for the SPU group was sophomore
Krysta Carrick (Tokyo, Japan), who placed 135th in 19:52.03. Freshman
Megan Knape (Rockland, Mich.), freshman
Leah Swanson (Seattle/Blanchet HS) and sophomore
Kelsey Brown (Colorado Springs, Colo.) rounded out the scoring.
Senior Jacob Wahlenmaier (Everett, Wash./Cascade HS) led the Falcon men to a 16th place finish. Wahlenmaier completed the 8-kilometer course in 26:21.31, placing 115th overall, and the entire SPU five-fan scoring pack finished within 24 seconds.
SPU wound up with 488 points. Portland led the 23-team field with 25 points.
Junior Daniel Hamilton (Missoula, Mont.) was one spot and less than one second behind Wahlenmaier. Junior Nate Sleight (Bellevue, Wash./Bellevue Christian HS), sophomore AJ Baker (AuGres, Mich.) and sophomore Andrew Van Ness (Bellevue, Wash./Bellevue Christian HS) were Seattle Pacific's other three scorers.
Both Falcon teams return to action next Saturday in Bellingham's Lake Padden Park at the Pre-Regional meet. The men's 8K race begins at 10 a.m., followed by the women's 5K at 11 a.m.
EMERALD CITY OPEN
Nate Seely was the first of three Seattle Pacific finishers across the line at the Emerald City Open in Seattle's Lower Woodland Park on Saturday morning.
Seely (Lynden, Wash./Lynden HS), a sophomore, finished the rugged 8K course in 30 minutes 20 seconds, taking 48th place. Freshman Andrew Rae (St. Helens) Oregon was 57th, and freshman Matt Edel (Portland, Ore.) took 59th.
