SEATTLE -- Chris Banchero led six double-figure scorers with 17 points Friday as 10th-ranked Seattle Pacific opened the season with a 102-62 rout of Cal State East Bay on the first day of the Sodexo Tip-Off Classic at Brougham Pavilion.

The Falcons (1-0) shot 61 percent from the field (38 of 62), including 13-of-24 accuracy from 3-point range. They limited CSU East Bay (1-1) to 40-percent shooting 23 of 57).

All five starters tallied double-figures for SPU. Jeff Downs scored 15, Ryan Sweet and Andy Poling contributed 13 apiece and Scott Morse had 10. Jake Anderson came off the bench to score 10 points.

Roshun Wynne was the top scorer for the Pioneers with 18, followed by Will Freedman with 10.

SPU held the Pioneers scoreless for nearly five minutes in the second half, going on an 11-0 run, and driving up the score to 94-56 with 3:25 left to play.

CSU East Bay finally showed a sign of life with a jumper made by Arturo Garcia with just over three minutes left to play. The Falcons answered with a 3-pointer by Scott Morse and Garcia hit his second-straight basket to bring the score to 97-60.

The Pioneers' Brandon Hrboka made a jumper, but his effort was for naught. Jeff Dorman drained a three to bring the Falcons to the century mark with 1:43 left to play.

Seattle Pacific ran the clock out as much as possible in the final minutes, but got fouled with 24 seconds left on the game. Modou Niang hit both his free throws to end the game with the largest lead of the night.

The 40-point final margin was the widest win for the Falcons since they defeated Montana State Billings 90-34 on Feb. 7, 2008.

SPU carried a 53-26 lead into halftime. The Falcons shot 60.0 percent (21-of-35) from the field, including 50 percent (8-of-16) from 3-point range and a very strong 75 percent (3-4) from the charity stripe. Banchero led SPU in points with 10 and in assists with four helpers. Downs finished the half with nine points and two boards.

Wynne carried Cal State East Bay during the first stanza with 13 of the team's points and a perfect 2-of-2 from long range.

The Falcons started in the hole, picking up a technical foul for a dunk during warm-ups, and giving up two points to Freedman. That was East Bay's only lead of the game.

It took SPU over a minute to get on the board, but once the Falcons got going, they were hot, building a formidable 18-point lead, their largest of the half.

Five players made their Falcons debuts Friday in the regular-season opener; Poling, David Downs, Riley Carel, Jeff Dorman and Modou Niang. They all played during the three exhibition contests that including road wins over NCAA Division II opponents Eastern Washington (87-82) and Nevada (84-81).

Seattle Pacific is back in action Saturday at 7 p.m. when it takes on Dixie State in the final game of the Sodexo Tip-Off Classic. Dixie defeated Western Washington 86-80 in their first game Friday. Cal State East Bay will face Western Washington at 3pm Saturday.
