LOWELL, Ore. – Seattle Pacific handily won the featured women's varsity eight race and also captured the men's varsity four crew title Saturday during the Covered Bridge Regatta on Dexter Lake.

For the second straight week the Falcons, ranked third among varsity eights in the NCAA Division II women's poll, defeated No. 4 Humboldt State. They improved on last Saturday's 1.5-second margin by crossing the finish line over four seconds in front of the Lumberjacks.

Those two crews are battling for an at-large berth to the NCAA Women's Rowing Championships, set for May 27-29 in Rancho Cordova, Calif. At last year's national regatta, SPU placed fourth in the varsity eight race and captured the overall team silver medal.

SPU's winning time Saturday was 7-minutes, 24.50-seconds and Humboldt finished a boat length back in 7:28.56. Willamette, ranked 15th among NCAA Division III crews, posted a third-place time of 7:31.80.

The Falcons top men's crew rowed to an impressive six-second triumph in the race for four-oared varsity boats. Their winning time in the open-water win was 7:19.60. Willamette was second in 7:25.96 and Seattle University was third in 7:32.33.

The finish order was reversed in the men's second varsity race won by Willamette in 7:32.84. SPU's runner-up time of 7:44.57 was over 11 seconds faster than the 7:55.99 turned in by third-place Oregon.

Seattle Pacific women's crews placed third in both the varsity four (8:29.87) and second varsity four (8:55.43) events.

Host Lewis & Clark won the varsity four competition in 8:11.60 and Humboldt was second in 8:16.72.

Humboldt State clocked a winning time of 8:28.50 in the race of second varsity fours, followed by Lewis & Clark in 8:32.83.

The Falcons fleet returns home to host the Raptor Cup next Saturday, April 16. The dual regatta against Seattle University begins at 7:20 a.m. on the Lake Washington Ship Canal.
