SEATTLE -- Shawn Reid, a 6-foot-5 forward who was the second-leading scorer at Montana State University, is transferring to Seattle Pacific, men's basketball coach Ryan Looney announced Thursday.

Reid will be a junior with two seasons of eligibility remaining and can play immediately during the 2012-13 season for the NCAA Division II Falcons.

“We are excited that Shawn Reid has decided to attend Seattle Pacific University,” Looney said. “He is a great fit for our program and campus.”

He averaged 10.6 points and 3.3 rebounds for the Division I Bobcats, who had a 12-17 record last season and placed fifth in the Big Sky Conference standings with a 7-9 mark.

Reid started 10 games, including a Feb. 15 contest against Weber State during which he made five 3-pointers en route to a career-high 31-point performance.

“Shawn gives us an experienced player that can score. At times our team had a hard time scoring this past season and the addition of Shawn Reid should help us in that area,” explained Looney.

“If he can learn quickly in regards to how we defend and rebound, he will have a chance to be a special player in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.”

A product of Post Falls (Idaho) High School, Reid led the Trojans to the 2010 Class 5A state championship. He received the tournament's Most Valuable Player award.

The two-time Inland Empire League MVP guided Post Falls to its first state title in 46 years, compiling 16 points and eight rebounds in a 68-60 win in the state final against top-ranked Eagle High School.

Reid averaged 18 points and 11 rebounds as a senior at Post Falls and was honored as the 5A Boys All-Idaho Basketball Team MVP.

Reid joins a Seattle Pacific squad that posted a 23-8 record and placed third in the GNAC with a 13-5 mark. The Falcons made their eighth straight NCAA Tournament appearance, the longest current playoff streak in the nation, and advanced to the West Regional championship game.

He joins two other newcomers who will join the SPU program next season. Recently graduated high school seniors Mitch Penner and Will Parker signed letters of intent during the November early signing period to play for the Falcons.

A 6-foot-5 forward from Kennedy High School in Burien, Wash., Penner was rated the state's No. 4 overall prospect in the class of 2012 by WashingtonPreps.com. Parker is a 5-foot-10 point guard from Skyline High School in Sammamish, Wash.
